DIY Carbon Fibre Vinyl Wrap

Post by radddogg »

Hi,

I thought I'd share some pics of my Smart ForTwo Cabrio as I've just tinted the windows and wrapped it in 4D carbon effect vinyl wrap. The wrapping process took about 12 hours in total as I removed every panel in order to get the most professional finish and was harder than anticipated due to the extreme curves of the wheel arch panels. I learned a lot of techniques so I think I could do it a little quicker if I did it again.

Might go into business as I read that firms charge £1000-£1500 to do this. :scared:

The only thing I can't decide is whether I should also do the grill - what do you think?

Yeah, its surprisingly forgiving too. Stretch it too much or crease it - blast of hot air and it shrinks back to size.

Thinking of spraying the wheels darker with red rim tape next. Thoughts?

Yes as it is cheaper and the results are much more effective. the car looks brand new now besides the wheels.

Not all mods are performance related anyway - are you telling me you have no cosmetic mods? Alloys etc..

£60 + elbow grease. I don't know any bodyshops that can respray a car for that..

Surely a normal sized car would be 4 times that....which is still cheaper than a respray I suppose if you can do it right.

Probably double. I used a roll 5 x 1.5m but had half a metre spare plus some odd offcuts due to the odd shape of the wheel arches

Yeah mine had the textured adhesive too. Obviously it can be found cheaper but I wanted to pick it up there and then.

Quite possibly the worst form of transport I've ever come across.

I don't care if its "easy to park" or "cheap to run" it makes you look like a faggot.

Have you tried crawling - that's pretty sucky as a form of transport. Obviously never driven one as they are extremely good fun to drive given the wheels are right on the corners. The volume of positive comments I receive from the public leads me to believe that your opinion isn't the general consensus. Ben (BJ Respect) has driven my car and he claimed to like it.
mike88 wrote:I don't care if its "easy to park" or "cheap to run" it makes you look like a faggot.
I presume that by 'faggot' you are making a homophobic comment, which is against the Forum Rules.

I'd like to know the source of your claim that the MCC Smart ForTwo is disproportionately popular with homosexuals as I have not come across this in the various Smart forums.

While we are discussing perceptions of other members cars, I'll leave you with this...

I see it is the look of the car that sways people rather than the point of the car. The vehicle makes perfect sense and serves its purpose well. So the guy comes on here to share his handy work, which is rather quite good.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but there is a serious lack of respect going on here, not only in Radders direction, but sexual orientation. I happen to know a few members who have read this thread who have taken offence to some of its content.

Total lack of support for each other within this community and lack of manners. If you have nothing nice to say then don't bother saying it or you will find yourself ejected from this forum.

Appalled.

Here here Baz

radddogg, i was really impressed with the results, if it had been me that had done that, i would have been over the moon.

haven't got anything to say positive or negative about the car, but the results and the quality of the job which what should have been discussed

Any next projects on the cards?
