The reason I am posting this only now in the Recommended Products section is because I have actually had the first engine that I bought from Vege replaced under warranty and I wanted to wait until not only the replacement was complete but also the reimbursement was complete (I had to first purchase approx 60% of the cost of the replacement engine and pay for the engine to be removed / new one fitted and then send them an invoice for the mechanic's costs. When they got back the existing engine and deemed the failure to be of a nature that is covered by the warranty they reimbursed me the amount I had given them for the replacement engine and made a part payment towards the cost of the mechanic's fees - my mechanic charged me a lot more than they were prepared to pay for but that's "Rip-Off Ireland" for you). Now that this has all been finalised I am confident in recommending Vege UK from my experience overall.
When I needed an engine rebuild, I spent many frustrating weeks exploring several options.
First, I was going to get my engine rebuilt, but found engineering and rebuilding companies were so busy that they could afford to pick and choose jobs and weren't particularly interested in taking my money (thousands) because it wasn't one they were used to working on often.
Then I spent several weeks calling around various scrapyards. I did find one, but you have to remember that you're buying an unknown quantity when you get an engine from a scrapyard. You'll get no guarantees the engine even works, and you mightn't even get to hear what car the engine came out of or what happened the car it was in. If you can't put it in yourself, you'll have to pay someone to do it and it'd be wise to get a complete set of gaskets and belts, water pump etc for it before you put it in your car. The expense soon adds up, and pretty soon, getting one from a scrapyard doesn't seem like such an economical option - plus you mightn't even know if it works before you've paid for all that!
I was prepared to go to the Rover for a new engine, but found that equally frustrating. I'm sure if I had been looking to buy a new car or an engine for one that was less than three years old I'd have got on fine, but having to explain to them what one of their own engines was every time I called them didn't give me great confidence.
Just as I was beginning to give up hope, I was recommended a place called Vege. They are a company that do nothing but engine rebuilds (or "remanufacturing" as they call it as engines are as good as, if not better than new). They were polite, helpful and knowledgeable. They sold me a remanufactured engine for my car with no fuss. It was much cheaper than if I had paid for my engine to be rebuilt and way cheaper than a new engine from Rover. In fact, it was probably as cheap as it would have been if I had got one from a scrapyard and paid for gaskets etc.
Vege had no problem shipping to me in Ireland and the engine arrived in only 3 days. Shipping was £180 and it arrives in a specially made crate which you keep to put your old engine into for shipping back to them. They add an additional surcharge on top of the price of the new engine which you get back when you return your old engine. This is like a deposit, so that they will then have another engine to rebuild from yours and the process can begin again. You can have up to about 3 months to get your engine back to them and all you have to do is call them when you are ready as the return price is included in the shipping price. You also get a one year's parts and labour warranty with the engine.
They do thousands of engines every year and do engines for many different makes of car too (not just Rover).
Give them a call on +44 1246 272227 or email them on sales@vegeuk.com
Have a look at their website http://www.vegeuk.com where you can read a bit more about this company. It's very impressive.
Overall I have been very pleased with the service I have received from Vege UK. They solved a big problem for me and saved me lots of money. I'm glad to pass on the information to anyone else it may be useful to.
