"FDH" Coupes and the sinking ship story
Anyone here own this site?
http://www.jull.co.uk/cars/220_turbo/rover_220.html
Sorry to Cableguy and everyone else who hate the mention of the "FDH" coupes at this stage but it cites the story that these cars came back because the ship to Japan flooded.
Tommy from the ramraider pit crew told me that he thought they came back because the Japanese toughened their emissions laws and so the coupes would not have complied with the new regulations and it wouldn't have been worthwhile for Rover to rework the engines to comply, probably seeing as they were going to discontinue the model anyway.
This sounds more credibile a story to me.
Can anyone put this "sinking ship" story to bed once and for all?

Who cares.
That site is owned by Christian of SXOC, he now has a very tasty S15 200 SX
He worked here for a few months a couple years back, had a good long chat with him. He had a T16 Turbo Maestro before the FDH, which fell into ill-fate at the hands of some rogue tuner in Stevenage who subsequently burned their building down and setup elsewhere in the general Watford area

I was talking to H (Monster Hunter) over the weekend and he said he recently met one of the people who worked on this batch of coupes to rehomologate them who told him that the cars definitely left the country and at least got as far as Malaysia, if not Japan and that they were stored in a warehouse there for a period of time before coming back.
The emissions thing sounds more plausible to me than the flooding thing. Surely someone must know definitively?

That was the most uncomfortable experience of my life.
The relief though was amazing when it came out.
