Yeah, you can run a spur without the need for any checks or certificates. You can also change socket and light swtich fronts and light fittings as well as a few other small alterations which I forget without having to inform anyone.

Ebay mod-chip truth?
Just wondered how much truth is behind the gains advertised by many ebay items on mod-chips? I'm referring to the ones that are basically a resistor put in line with the air temperature sensor to fool the ECU and advance ignition and fueling to compensate. How real are the gains by doing a mod like ...

It is an open ended discussion this one innit!!! There are ups and downs to it all I guess, we're a modern race, living in modern times, in a modern world thats always changing. I guess there is a point that we shouldnt live in the past and we should accomodate for other races as we should promote e...

Andrew, yeah, the boxed in pipe from upstairs will almost certainly be your main soil pipe (a 100mm or 4" pipe) You'll find that the sink, bath and toilet waste are joined into this from upstairs and then its piped down an inside wall which had been boxed in. I wouldnt try hacking into this myself t...

Yep, I agree totally with "requestingaflyby" you need a gradual fall over the entire length of the run to avoid water traps and improve water flow. Your dish washer will pump out "x" gallons per minute and the speed at which you can get rid of this waste will depend on the bore of your waste pipe an...

Advice needed!!!
I need some advice on what could be a life changing decision. I've suspected for some time now that my wife has been having an affair. The usual signs. Phone rings, I answer, someone hangs up. She started going out 'with the girls' a lot recently although when I ask which girls it is always "Just so...

In that case all you need is a shitty C&G of some level. Pass the 16th edition wiring regs and get certified to house bash! Get yourself a nice white escort van, a catchy name (such as "cowboys are us!" - Joke!) and you're in business! I think 16th edition exams only run twice per year, so check it ...

Well, you basically just said what I said before to answer the breaker question. As for the alternating thing, as I have tried to explain, although my wording may not be the easiest to understand! AC simply means the voltage is supplied on one wire, the live, by alternating we mean that the amplitud...

Yeah it is a bit of a thinker init!!! Well, in theory there is nothing to stop any ac circuit working regardless of which way round the phase and neutrals are wired. What has been said about the single pole switches etc on live sides is correct. We stick to one wiring method purely for safety as man...

Yeah it is possible that all your ring mains are under the upstairs floor boards and only your light circuits are in the loft. But I'd have a good look just to check you havent missed anything. Right, hang on a sec. Are you saying the breaker you want to change is the main 60Amp breaker that disconnects power to the rest of the consumer unit? Or are you saying the RCD you want to change is simply occupying 4 ways on your load side? When you said RCD, you tend to only have them on things th...

Ahhh, I see. Well if all you're doing is swapping an RCD (I presume its for a power shower or something?) from an old sized one to a newer one, which you're right, all tend to occupy 2 ways. Yeah, rip it out, swap it, free up 2 ways, no problems!!! Run in your new circuits, bang in 2 new MCBs for th...

I'm an electrician. Not sure exactly what you want to do, sounds like you're trying to modify your existing unit, which is a "no no". But if you're intention is to replace the entire consumer unit with a more up to date and larger unit with more "ways", it is quite a simple preocedure. To isolate th...

Well, like everyone seems to agree, your symptoms are typical of a slightly worn CV joint. They can let dirt in and then get worn and then deteriorate very quickly. I had similar symptoms, but mine ended up not being the CV joint, but I think mine was an isolated incident. Clunking or clicking under...

There is little to no difference between the VFR (NC30) and the RVF (NC35). Nothing that you'd notice on the streets anyway!!! Theres perhaps half a second between them on a track!!!
