Nearly there. Last week of coding.

Post by pscan.eu »

We now have all of the parts in stock. The OBD cable assemblies only arrived at the end of last week. Everything seems to work as it should.

We just have a last week of cleaning up code and sorting a few features out and we will be shipping out units to customers.

Do you know yet will be on them when shipped?

Really looking forward to this.

I would really like to ship next week but it does depend on a family member who has to flash 43 interfaces and package them up, and I can't speak for him.

We did commit to ship in September and will try our hardest to hit that. It's going to be tight though.

Speaking for myself, I'd far rather have something which is a couple of days later than estimated than something which has been hurried through with defects, even if that's only a slightly crooked label applied too hastily.

Also, it gives a bit of time to get another battery for the laptop, which has just developed the rather alarming problem of holding no charge at all.

The hardware has been tested to death. The design is unchanged (apart from canBUS termination, which Rovers don't use) from the one used at the testing days back in June.

The software and firmware has all been designed to be ungradeable over the Internet. I can't guarantee to ship this error free as the software is just too complicated for that, but I will be able to fix it if issues are found.

We were hoping to use child labour (my niece) to stick the labels on. She has done work experience in a factory and will probably be more careful than I would be.

Hm. I'm sorry if my use of the word "defect" touched a nerve. Working in computer software myself, I suppose I should have known better. I won't try and dig myself out of that hole, because it will only get deeper. It certainly wasn't my intention to imply that there would be defects. Please accept my apologies.

There will be defects.

So no need to apologise.

However I will be shipping something that you can actually use as intended.

I've ordered this from Belgium an tried to make this as clear as possible in the adress which was "fixed" to UK only. Please pay extra attention you get the address right, I'm not the only one with this problem.

Can't wait to try it out !

That is a limitation of Kickstarter.
As the owner of a project they only gave me two options:-
1. Offer to the whole world, with a single pricing option for that.
2. Limit to the UK only.

I was not comfortable with option 1 because I could have someone buy the product from a part of the world where shipping is extremely expensive or insecure (such as a war zone), and it would make things too expensive for people in the EU for example.

So I went for option 2 which has caused this problem. It simply means that I will have to communicate with backers outside of the UK, agree a shipping price, collect payment and ship it. We just have to ignore the issues with Kickstarter and work around them.

For my own protection I will only ship to a backers address when I have received that address through a Kickstarter message. I have no proof that an email or message here comes from the same person who actually paid and so that is why I need to take that precaution.
