It's the typical combination of over-enthusiasm, no background knowledge and asking lots and lots of question in lieu of doing your homework. I'll happily put my hands up and say I remember being like that.

I remember I was going to get a Mk1 820 Turbo, turn the boost up to 300HP then add 100HP of NO2 and do top speed runs on the M1.

That was after deciding I was going to add adjustable hydraulic suspension that ran off the PAS pump to my mondeo.

Thankfully I only annoyed my dad with these half-baked ideas.

With the anonymity of the internet it's easy to miss the visual scene of a bunch of grown men "picking on" a young lad. On the other hand, the anonymity provides a level field where you're not judged on how young you look.

One thing I would say: taking the time and effort to make your questions clear and easily-understood goes a long way in getting polite responses.

Poor man's substitute for a chassis dyno to gauge power increases ;) Considering I also had an aversion to wasting money on expendable items like tyres, combined by with lack of driving skill and over-confidence, things probably would have ended in a big crash...

better pass your test first!!!

Another thing - so far you seem to have proved your point quite well. You have taken the flack and you havent hit back - so well done.

The problem i find is that a new driver should NOT be driving around in a modded rover coupe turbo. Its only asking for trouble. By all means, restore the coupe turbo but i strongly suggest you take at least 6 months or maybe even a year to get used to driving on the public roads before driving around in a 200bhp+ car.
Your only going to be wanting to race every tom, inflatable dinghy and harry and with your lack of experience is only going to end in disaster.
If you manage to avoid the temptation then i take my hat off to you.
Sorry to be a moaner but i can only see this ending in tears for you or someone else.

You could have loads of experience on track BUT on the road is alot different. The thing you got to watch out for is OTHER DRIVERS!!! You need to anticipate their moves as well as your own and this can only come from experience.

But good luck with it all and dont go trashing it within the first 6 months!

so whats the point of all the mods? standard is plenty quick enough.

By the time you pay insurance and declare all the mods, id be surprised if you get insurance at all.

On a ~15 year old car bought for 300 quid I'd probably spend the first six months servicing and repairing it ;)
