Bolt in cages

Post by WonderSheep »

Just browsing eBay and spotted this..

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 2792338881

Looks like a serious accident but also appears like the cage has failed near to where it's bolted.

Just interested in thoughts on this.

I wonder if it would have performed any better if it had been stitched in the body/shell?? Might have spread the load better at that point?

Good to see the driver survived though, even if injured.

I saw the accident video, was a hell of an impact and i dont think anything bar a much thicker and fully welded in cage would of helped much.

Thats the Safety Devices cage approved for the MG Trophy championship. It's only a basic 6 post cage that is fitted to box sections welded into the floor of the car. Was a bad crash to be honest and the cage prop isn't really designed to with stand that would need a full FIA multi point weld in cage to keep the drivers area intact. I do however think after that damage it shouldn't be for sale and can't believe anyone would bid on it

I hadn't read the description and didn't realise that it was a Trophy spec car either. :scared:

Having seen the video it was a massive accident.

I was toying with the idea of using my BRM as a track toy and had been looking for cages.

I don't think I'd ever track it without one now.

You'd be unlucky to have anything like that happen on a trackdays I think I've been doing then since 2009 and never come across anything like that :drive:
