Why oh why does this keep being said.
It's on the news and it's wrong.
It's a new company that is being set up by Rover and SAIC.
Rover is still owned by PVH and Longbridge is still owned by PVH.

Interesting. Personally if it mean more money for MG-R then the better. MG-R has a lot of talented engineers & designers under its belt. Hopefully now tey will get the money needed to develop the model range.

Not so sure about some of the cars they proclaim as being "turkeys" :?

Too right, i was speaking to my dad about this on the phone today, its weird because we have had ARG products since produced (an MG Metro from 1985, an Ambassador before that, MG Maestro from 1998 to date) and none have been bad car's and in the case of the Maestro, the best all rounder. It's not like we havent driven anything else either to come to that conclusion. Ask any owner who gives two hoots and they'll tell you its the fun to drive nature that never fails to put a smile on your face thats part of it, the other is the reliabilty. Yes, reliable! No major problems in over 20 years of ownership.

Motoring/general press seems to be taken as gospel, such as this article here, which isn't a takeover bid at all. Its the formation of a new company to produce mid-ranged car's. If people care to investigate you'll see that they are affiliated with VW and GM. I see this as a good thing all round, securing jobs within MGRover and its suppliers, allowing them to develop new cars to be competitive, and hopefully, continued parts supply for the older cars which continue to solider on.

well, if it stops rover going bust its got to be a good thing. Shame its not a deal with a british company tho. I doubt they will stop making MG's ect.. I think if anything with exstra money they are more likely to build better and more sporty cars. Who knows

Unfortunately the tripple M cars have never been able to shake there initial bad press with regards build. It soon sorted and a Montego is a better all rounder than its contemparies(sierra & cavalier), The thing is even the R8s have some how aquired an reputation as being carp!! Not sure how as they where class leading upon there release.

It's simple. The press got into the habit of slaggin BL car's in the 70's, they couldnt change their tune and actually say that they were good car's because people dont wanna hear that. I blame the press for MGRover's current position to some extent.

They're Rovers - stands to reason - read it somewhere! Must be right - saw it in print.

Rover has a history of buying a shitbox, sticking a bit of wood on it and selling it for three grand too much

I think that is very unfair!!!

I also think the press have a lot to blame for Rovers demise over the last few years...

The name Rover has become synonamous with all the Leyland sheds that were nails - Allaggro, Maxi, Marina, Ital etc, because Rover are the last of the major British manufacturers they've unfairly inherited the bad reputation :(

Plastic wood IS very sad, it should have stopped along with sticky back vinyl in the late seventies. IMO it doesn't make your dash look classy, in fact quite the reverse.

i assume he means the printed wood effect surface. Like the mk3 200's had. By any means wood is old hat.

It depends upon how it's designed. Would you say that the 2001> Range Rover has a dash that's "old hat" then?

Hmm ok if you like your fake looking carbon fibre to look like grey and black squares printed on vinyl.

I haven't seen the wooden dash in the 2001 Range Rover, so can't comment but IMO wood/veneer interiors generally look better on very expensive and classic vehicles but cheap and nasty on mid-upper range production cars. I prefer quality, good looking texture to plastic look-a-like wood.

Yes, wood is wood regardless of the car its in, its all old hat. The dash itself in the new range rover isn't old but then again i said the wood effect not the actual dash itself.
