216 GTi.....a lot more than expected

Post by 220Turbo »

I've had the 216 GTi for a few days and am so suprised on the performance of the engine. Had to drive to Oxford yesterday and wasn't really looking forward to it. But it was so much fun :) the induction kit makes a great noise, the honda engine means 7000 RPM and the look on the vtr blokes face was classic when I pulled away from him on the private test track

My advice, if you're thinking of a 220 or 216 hatch, go for the 216 every time :)

I only jsut realised since getting the 620sli that i would so much rather have been driving my GTi twin cam its not even funny...

its perfect for everything, even long journeys, the interior is ace, has all the usual features, and just rules...

i want another!

7000 RPM? 7600 is where it's at, lol ;) To be honest, after a while the novelty of high revs wears off and the torque of a 2 litre becomes much more desireable...or so I found.

You should try VTEC power! That will probably make you want to chop in a Turbo :P There is no comprimise with B16 power though....thats 100% driveable*

Scott,

You should try a 216 GTi with full Climate from an 800, makes an even more pleasant interior

*Turbo bolt on is always nice though.

the way i see it, the 216 is a perfect sized car. You can caine it to the shops spiritedly, enjoying some high revving chuck aboutable ness, then pick up a load of people and your shopping and drive it like an ordinary capable hatchback, its perfect.

Obviously longer journeys demand bigger cars, for which the 800 is perfectly suited also lol.

StuarttheFish's 216gti blew the doors off a 220 nasp and appeared to be just about as fast as a 220 turbo on a 1/4 mile drag.

Ahem. :D

220 nasp I can understand as with a few mods the D16 can make the same/more power, but the turbo must have been runing poorly as I think (forgive me if im wrong) he has a lesser spec than mine, and I most certainly wouldnt be able to beat a 220 turbo tbh

and Miles: yes can't wait buddy :)

Regular 600 miles round trips Glasgow - Leicester, and I agree! Tho, tbh it's not that bad. Definately getting a SOHC gearbox if I get another.
