At least they spelt that correctly on the front cover

Looks good but I'm still not overly keen on the new style grille :ermm:

I hate this current fashion in car design where everthing looks like a bland mini people carrier. The new Golf, Peugeot 309, Ford Focus, Civic hatch etc are all becoming more and more alike. I hate they way they are so high up off the road. To me this style of design just leaves me cold. Now Rover come out with their own take on this conformity, except it's two years too late to the party.

For the future of MG Rover, I hope it's very successful but if I was given one for free, I'd sell it and buy a MK2 200 (and keep the change!). That's the shape a hatchback should be in my opinion, but it seems like the general public don't think so any more and the manufacturers are just catering for the market. Seems to me like people want bland conformity these days.

I couldn't believe how everyone on mgrover.org were wetting themselves about it.

It's AE's best guess from the photoshop that was leaked to the Sun a few weeks ago.

Not necessarily what it will look like at all.

Alright phew - I thought I might have been a bit too venomous there in my dislike of it. And again, not that I dislike this new Rover in particular but I just dislike it in the same way as all the other "samey" cars - and yeah - the A2 is another one to add to that list for sure Rob!

Even if you do like this style of design though, I think it is clear that it is just another variation on a theme so I found it strange that everyone on mg-rover.org were so ecstatic about it. I was begining to wonder whether the site was funded by Rover PR or that they were afraid to say anything negative for some reason.

Anyway, having said all that I hope it comes out quickly and sells well, because obviously I'd really like MG Rover to stay in business and have a secure future. I think autumn 2006 is too late though because the current Civic is already due to be replaced soon with a new model.

Oh yeah, and what is announcing a new model a year and a half in advance going to do for sales of the current model?

Shouldn't have much if any effect at the moment.
Closer to release date it might do some good, get people round the stealers all trying to leverage the 'new model coming out' discount on the old models.
