IIRC they banned the rally 6R4 from the roads coz it ripped up the tarmac on full leather.

Err, sure, it's in a shipping container in Bulgaria. You can't collect it because the container is sealed up and the docks won't release it. BTW please email me at my yahoo.cs email address, as my reputable UK is "broken". Also, I will send you oversized cheque, please return excess back to me...

Quote was just from one of the websites someone gave a link to. I thought they cost more TBH.

I heard it was something to do with group B rally drivers who kept dying :?

They are an awesome machine. Probably not a daily driver though. Then again, going Tesco in it would be fun...

Got to be such a nickable car though

The 6r4 never realy had a chance to realy prove itsself in its day, because shortly after its development, group b rallying was banned.
The problem was, group b rally cars were getting so unbelievable fast, they were becoming a liability, especially with the growing spectator crowds on almost every stage of every rally, were drivers doing 80-90 mph were literaly inches from the crowds lining the sides of the road.
It was only a matter of time before there was a fatal accident involving spectators, and when that day came (an rs200 ploughed into a group of people, killing iirc about a dozen people :( ), the plug was pulled on group b rallying.
They then introduced group a rallying.

Go for it. Id definatly get one if I had the money.
From what ive read the 'clubman' spec is about 250bhp and has a single throttlebody.
The 'International' spec is about 380-400bhp. and that has 6 butterfly throttlebodies, bigger cams and uprated conrods.

I love reading this thread, such mixed reactions! I dont think some people really understand what a 6R4 is/means. Its not 'just' a metro, but then it is not 'just' a kick-ass rally car. Its an icon! May not be the daintiest of lookers but imagine blatting down through the local chavved-out McD's in it and giving it a bit of right foot on the way out. Imagine the looks you'd get everywhere you went!

Wilky, i've got to see it at some point if you do get it! Its a shame you cant get hold of an international spec jobbie without spending stupid cash. Shame you cant find them atall, actually! I know Colin Mcrae has one of the only few.

Just to add

I know Jerry Flint (Ex-XPF owner) he purchased his as a clubman spec
Before it even hit the road it required it's 30 hour service (Fluids and belts) which came in at close to 3000 pounds :o
It has to be be done by a 6R4 reg service agent to keep up the history and value of the car.
Jerry had a full H&S system made and it still couldn't make the sound req at track days, 114db.
What a car though, cracking machine but not something you would drive to POD for a quich thrash or a track day with your mates.
As for a road going vers, why bother because you know you're going to hike the power at some point and this will cost a few pounds.
