the real ones have battery's in the front too  Its a modification to put them in the boot.

The way you can usually tell a real one is it has ABS as standard and a sunroof.

There isn't a tag on the car that says it is 1 of a certain model. Best way is to check the reg number with the DVLA and check whether or not its originally a turbo model or not. If its standard, then it'll have 6 spoke alloys too.

Bringing a thread back from the dead :D

You say the way to tell if GSi turbos are real is that they will have ABS, was ABS or sunroof not avaliable as an option on the standard GSi?

Also does this also count for the GTi turbos to tell if they are original they will have ABS? (That is assuming they were not an option on the standard GTis)

There is a GSi Turbo on ebay at the moment looks a stunner, but when you run the reg through an RAC Vehicle Data check it only comes up as a GSi

Yes I did that one, the turbo came up as Gsi Turbo and the one on ebay just came up as GSi. :ermm: I suppose it could be possible that some GSi Turbos were registered as GSi Turbos and some as GSi depending on age? :?

I don't suppose it matters that much but for myself I would like a real one, besides the fact a non real one will be classed as a modification and more expensive to insure.l. I will have to carry on looking, no real rush until the 214 tops itself, would prefer to wait to get the ideal one in a colour I like.

Wonder how many are actually left.

Looks like a conversion to me.

1) The Numberplate plinth would have had a 'Turbo' badge.
2) The wheels are 7 spoke flower types

Also has a twin exhaust which isnt standard.

Also where are the Seat Belt Buckles in the back :?

i noticed the lack of rear seat belts... in the E bay ad..
its only my opinion so dont want to offend anyone, but i think gsi turbo's
are better looking than tomcats.. and the shell is stiffer too..
and more boot space , havent got one but love em..

i think if it hasnt got gsi turbo on the v5 its not one.
by the sound of the E bay ad, the cars not kosher something odd. :?

Just to add mine on RAC reg check states it as GSI Turbo, sounds like a conversion to me. Could be an OK car, has anyone asked the seller?

My car (a genuine gsi turbo) states 220 gsi turbo on the v5. Its a 1994L reg.

I assume all genuine ones would read the same on the v5.

Good point,

Am I right in thinking that the only way to tell is from the v5 then?

Check behind the n/s front suspension turet for the fan relay box,(little black plastic box) only turbo's and a/c cars had one, and they can be a pain in the donkey boy to wire up when doing a conversion.
