Nice colour for the 420 and she looks clean and rust free
So I finally joined the Turbo gang...

Thinking about it the 420 has way shorter gears than a 220 turbo doesnt it, maybe thats why it feels like it pulls more in gear?

haha, how did you find that?rover220 wrote:seems to go pretty well too![]()
Dan, I only did that for video purposes. On the drive home, after I'd had a few blasts in 1st, I started to go easy on it. There's actually no need to boot it in first, as even if you take it easy (1/2 throttle, changing at 4k), you still get a very nice kick from the turbo.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words
Mark, the 420 has nice long gears actually... 40 in 1st, 70 in 2nd... I love 5th gear though, what a lovely cruiser this car is. Sitting at 70, the engine is just ticking over at 2600rpm, lol.
Tony, it was a very dark blue ST170 with a Nurburgring sticker on the bootlid. Either way, he wasn't a happy chappy
Mike (matthews2k), thanks mate. I think we'll have to meet up soon and get a few pictures of them together.

Didn't think it was.rover220 wrote:wont be a 420 box with them ratios
Sound like a Ti box? I was going to say a Vitty box, but a friend said that his Vitty does 30 in 1st and 65 in 2nd.

Ohhh cool. I always thought the Ti boxes were longer ratios.
Cheers Mark, don't worry, they're on their way
Not for a few months, but they'll be here eventually. Just sorting the handling and brakes out first.

I know of 3 420 Gsi T's which all had the long ratios and 1 Gsi Sport T which had the short ratios.MarkCoupe wrote:Bloody hell, i used to preach this also, and then someone 'corrected' me, does anyone know the definitavie answer???JamesCoupe wrote:420T's use the same boxes as 220T's. Mine is 40/70/110 indicated and on GPS my speedo is pretty much spot on.
But knowing Rover it probably depended on what was in stock at the time
Looks good anyhow

I wonder if it was early cars that received shorter ratios?? I am sure Leo's has/had the shorter ratios?iainp wrote:I know of 3 420 Gsi T's which all had the long ratios and 1 Gsi Sport T which had the short ratios.MarkCoupe wrote:Bloody hell, i used to preach this also, and then someone 'corrected' me, does anyone know the definitavie answer???JamesCoupe wrote:420T's use the same boxes as 220T's. Sounds good matey. I have to say it looks very cleanMike (matthews2k), thanks mate. I think we'll have to meet up soon and get a few pictures of them together.
Two front wings and loads of little bits and bobs. As you know from
when you saw it last.
The water pump went the other week i was gutted
Every bolt snapped but pulled my finger out and fixed it.
So mite so the same to the 220 in the summer.
The better brakes i bought for the NASP will they fit the turbo or are the turbo brake discs bigger

220GSi nasp SOLD / 220GSi Turbo SOLD / 420 GSi Turbo SOLD / 216 Coupe BLOWN UP 214 Bubble SOLD / MG Maestro Turbo MG ZR 105+
Dave, Iain and James, thanks guys. Glad you like it
Mike, damn, that's a gutter about the waterpump. Still, glad you fixed it and I hope you fix the 220 up. It'd be a shame to send another to the scrappers, especially the good condition it's in.
Yep, the discs and pads will go straight on the 420. I reckon it'll look smart
