Wrong offset? Try spacers, you might not need much to stop it rubbing

Thanks for the advice it is the first set of 17s we have had so we will look into it
gwanhaz wrote:na 17s are better on coupes cos they go but, for ride comfort 15s cos there only 15s if you curb them then it wont matter cos there only 15s
I know you can get lightweight wheels and as long as you get close enough to the rolling circumference, acceleration and speed shold nt be a problem You can use this link to help sort out the right size to get http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
They make good tyres with rim protectors nowadays, if the tyre isnt wide enough for this to protect the rim, get wider tyres
I've got 17" OZ Superleggera's and the comfort is the same (utter pants because its just lowered on springs), it feels a bit grippier on the road, and I'd have to say it probably accellerates slightly quicker. The rolling radius is identical between the two, but the wheels are a darn sight lighter than the Rover 15's... Much more so in fact.
When i have lowered the car, I shall probably go for 16/17's and hope that you are right. More insurance companies are refusing me due to the mods i have done so far. Would'nt mind but i'd say that they have done zip in the way of performance. Maybe i should get it chipped then they really have got a reason to refuse. I drive my other halfs 200SX every now and then. Maybe it's a power thing that i don't notice?
I will always go with 17's, as on 15's there is just too much side wall flex for my liking, with the 17's on and coilovers on full stiff, the car handles extremely well on smoothish roads and the track. The car is not so great on bad roads, but setting the coilovers to soft does help quite alot.

I am doing a sponsored bike ride in September this year, from Dublin to Cork. I am raising the money for SCOPE.
I would be very grateful if you would considering visiting my JustGivingweb page and sponsoring me.
My other half lowered the car at the weekend and it feels slightly different.
Lot more jumpy in certain area's. Still, I shall be looking at some 16's to see how they look against the car. If i can find some i like that is.
At the moment i still have my eyes on a set of Wolfrace 17's.
Taken pics of the car to download, just hope that the kids don't get to the camera first. Looks really nice now. Done a quick paint job under the bonnet. Bit of silver to get it looking a little more in shape.
Unlike my poor back
I went 19's on my 220........what can I say handles like s**t but looks great.........
When I was running 17's I thought the ride was cracking.......they were a 7.5x17.......no rub rub either
I shall look at 16's and 17's and just pick a pair that i like and match them to the car. I could be looking at a year before i can afford such a luxury though. I shall put my numbers up for the lottery and see if i can win a tenner for once one day i shall win the big one ! and go and buy a bottle of wine with my £10. what a rip.
I think 17" 's aswell. On my 218 iS the standard 15" 's were ok but you could lose front end grip quite easily. But with 17" MG Straights it handles superbly and looks great. The car feels at lot more stable esecially at high speed. Combined with a 50mm drop works a treat .
The speedo reads true now aswell ( lost its 7% built in error) - checked with my gps snooper.
well, lets start by being fair and say both the 15s and 17s are the same width - in theory, the 15s all the way for better feel, handling and performance, with the same levels of grip. Possibly better comfort on 15s too. But 17s will more than likely always look better as they fill the arches. All down to wot u like though!! Not that any of this affects me, 14s fill the arches on mine!! He he
I had put some 18 inch wheels under the tc
'theye where from a collega from me
but logger happens the wheels are to big 225,30-18
so now i ordered some 17 inch the same wheels as the 18 inchers
see
(my tc with 18 inch)
all these people who say they prefer 15's to the 17's they have got, pass the 17's this way lol and im sure i can find you some lovely standard 15's from a scrppie somewhere.
I got to admit I liked the 17's a nice allrounder, only went for the 18's cause I saw a set I liked on ebay (Payed £316 for KEI 5 spoke 18 with Falken Tyres) most places wanted £500 - £600 for a set of new 17's with tyres (that extra inch makes the difference )

Thats the problem, people swap to nice tyres on a 17" rim from some ditchfinders they have on the 15" and think its the wheel upgrade thats made the car 'handle' better.
Its all in the tyres Personally i think on a Coupe something in 16" size is spot on.
I think the 620 Ti was 'under-wheeled/tyred' from standard. Looking at pics of them as original, aesthetically the 16's are too small, and when I went to 17 Roversport (the vitesse sport) the handling was much improved, accelartion still bl00dy quick and look soooo much better. And lowered 620's on the 17's look perfect imo.
Andy
PS Might go for a 215-40 on the rims next as they are cheaper and less sidewall to flex and a slightly smaller rolling radius
15's are better for everyday driving, As i dunno if anyone on here has ever driven on the m6 with 17" rims with 40 profie tyres? north bound past birmingham city centre. On 17's you get stuck in the lorry ruts in the road and it feel like your trying to drive out of a dish. Although having 17's on 40 profile does give alot less tyre roll than 15's and it cant effect the performance that much cause if you put a strandard rover 15 and tyre next to a 17 with 40 profile tyre theyre pretty much the same hight. Its just 17 is more wheel less tyre

I've gone from 15" standard steelies to 17" vitesse sport and the the difference is amazing. I'm sure when I lower the centre of gravity i'll get even more grip.
The 600 is a big heavy car so the 17" suits it. On smaller light cars the tyre roll won't be as bad on 15" .
If cars worked well with rubber band tyres then the rally teams teams would use them. But they don't. If you want the looks go for big wheels, if you want handling go for smaller wheels.
i have standard alloys on my ti and it already looks quite low.. i think it will look even sweeter with 17"on her!!! thats without getting it lowered!!
ive got a nice set of 15 team dynamic pro race2`s which are really really light, imo id be better off with 17`s for clearance(bloody speed bumps) but 15`s are lighter, mine are about 6.5kgs a wheel iirc any unsprung weight is bad for acceleration, but 17`s on 40`s or 45`s fill the arches properly
Rovers dont leak, they just mark they`re territory
