My coupe turbo has been off the road for a while as I've been swanning around in my company car. The intention was to sell it, a while back but er, just can't seem to bring myself to do it. After splitting up with the missus and subsequently losing all the history I'd built up for the car I am now investigating the options...
Anyway, been on the lookout for a 'track/race' car. I wanna go to the ring some time this year and I was looking at all kinds of RWD stuff to take but er when it boils down to it, I do really quite like the old Rover and it's cheap to repair when stuff breaks.
I could sell it but I reckon even my beloved FDH is pretty much worthless these days so I can't be assed with the hassle.
The car is standard, bar the following:
ZS180 front brake setup
Mongoose turbo back
SSQV humour valve
It rides on the standard 'turbo' 15s which I really did not want to replace, despite the new brakes not really fitting 'neath them. 5mm spacers were used and the car has vibrated after 70MPH ever since. Needless to say, I don't see my winging around the 'ring with these death trap spacers on, so I guess I need some new wheels.
BRM wheels look very much like the standard wheels I think but benefit from being slightly larger. How much heavier though, I wonder? This is a cheap project so uber light weight 17s are probably out although I cast my mind back to those light weight 17s Si used to have... mmm.
My full leather interior I guess I need to sell
Handling... this is one of the areas coupe's aint too clever at, chassis flex etc. What can I do to combat this? I need to be able to go round corners
I bought the car 'pre-lowered' I think it has lowering springs on standard shocks. The ride quality is interesting. Ahem. Input required here
Stopping power... as mentioned, got the slightly larger calipers and discs up front but I've never been impressed by the stopping power 'upgrade'. I will get yellow/red stuff pads this time, perhaps(?), and go for the braided lines at the same time.
Power upgrades... not even going to go here, there's just zero budget for this. I suspect sorting the wheels/sticking calipers/suspension is going to sap more cash and time than I'm happy with.
