High quality/high octane fuels may have a higher energy content though, which will make a difference in any car.
My understanding was that super unleaded actually has less energy than 95 - its certainly less volatile.

I always use Total Excellium, just because its nearby to home and work. When i occasionally use BP Ultimate it always runs rough for a while and the Lambda light comes on and off.

If BP Ultimate 102RON ever drops in price and becomes more available, I'd try this. Also, I have been tempted to try Sunoco FR 102RON and/or Sunoco Turbo Competition 102RON but again, these are pricey.

Anyone tried any 102RON stuff yet?
Its very unlikely to drop in price and become more widespread - its aimed purely at the "trackday market". There isnt enough demand from the average user to make it viable.
It is going to be more widespread, the original concept of it was a trial to see how the market responding and I think they were surprised with the sales of it. Price is unlikely to come down though as it's hand blended.

All fuels are the same, there is a shared network all the petrol companies use. Having brand specific fuel would be a logistical nightmare. The additives are added as the tankers are filled up.

Shell and BP's premium fuels have similar energy content to normal, it is tesco 99 that has less energy due to the 5% bioethanol.

Toblerone, What lambda light comes on with Ultimate? Sounds like an engine issue rather than fuel. You're not putting Ultimate derv in are you :p

First impressions is the car accelerates smoother, and cruises at lower revs easier.

But i dont mind spending £93.9 / lt for it, with the drive it produces.
Prob the effect of fresh fuel over stale old stuff to be honest

Could be, as the first 10 mins of driving it seemed very alien, due to the fact i dont drive a Rover 400 as a daily driver anymore.

It's the lamda on my Volvo - it always comes on in the first few miles of using ultimate or 95ron. I can always clear the fault by turning the ignition on 5 times, its just annoying having the yellow light shining out of the corner of your eye! it never seems to effect the performance of the car though.

Must be the rumour mill, as I was chatting to one of the guys involved in that project the other day.

I work for BP at their technology centre where the fuel is developed. Although I am in the other side of the business, Castrol.

Normal unleaded (not supermarket fuel though!) occasionally may treat it to Super or Optimax. Used to use normal unleaded in my old Impreza wagon turbo too - only Super goes into the cossie though
