Another F D H 'mine is bigger than yours' thread
absolutely, and i'm sorry it's come to that. this was, at one point, the most constructive F D H debate i've seen on here and I thought we were getting somewhere for a minute - hence why i'm still here.

it just serves to highlight what me and mach1rob were saying, that this is all based on a misunderstanding.

the three letters on a number plate makes sod all difference to the value or stature of the car, it's all to do with the fact that they were put on the road a few years later.

PLEASE stop believing that there is any hype surrounding the F, the D and the H as there isn't at all. we've made a register because, on a show stand, they stick out a bit and we find it interesting to track as many as we can, but apart from a few hundred quid being added onto their resale value, (because of the year of first registration) we all know there is nothing special about them - i just wish certain people would understand that.

I'm going to drop it now as, contrary to belief, i'm not on here to start a fight - i just wish it was easier to set the record straight.

OK, final point I think on all of this as once again its turning into a debarcle

1x F.D.H coupe with lets say 140k on the clock usual wear and tear that comes with 140k

1x N reg UK car with leather and aircon 50k one owner from new etc etc.

Whats worth more? My moneys on the UK car, even though it got put on the road 3 years sooner!

Eh!!!

Of course the lower mileage car will be worth more but the whole point is that these f.d.h's generally have lower mileage than the rest simply due to have only been driven for 7 years as apposed to 10+. I totally agree there is nothing special about them but iike any other car, people are willing to pay extra for an example with well below average miles. I wish people didn't rant and rave about them though due to the fact that many newbies entering the performance rover world seem to get filled with all kinds of doggies like fdh coupes had 220 bhp as standard.

I agree, it looks a bit snide really - A knee jerk reaction to a few people who think their year of manufacture makes their car better.
Do the majority of FDH owners regard their cars as superior because of the y.o.m or are the majority of owners penalised with a silly filter because of the attitude of a few ?
It's obviously a divisive issue that the swear filter encourages, which is a shame really given the neutrality towards other Rover models on this forum.

I bought the V reg, it was registered Nov 1999 with 2 miles on the clock. Weird.

Still don't see why it just can't be left as it's spelt out on the plate.

WTF is dfs now then??

But all rovers have depreciated, including F D H registered 200 coupes.
Actually, your wrong there. Coupe turbos for example have been worth £2000 for at least 2 years now, probably 3 years. I bought my turbo for £2000, sold it a year later for £2000, bought an MR2 for the £2000 and sold it a year later and struggled to get £1000, yet I'd still need £2000 to buy a coupe turbo. I'm talking good examples of cars as I know you can find cheaper turbos but you really need to budget £2000 for a good one.

So basically, other marquees have depreciated, whilst Rover goes into administration and everyone says values have hit rock bottom, but in reallity, the Turbo has done fantastically and not lost any value despite shi* hitting the fan.

I agree, it looks a bit snide really - A knee jerk reaction to a few people who think their year of manufacture makes their car better.
You've got it completely wrong....

The register was set up to try and discover how many of the cars existed, and how many were keen Rover enthusiasts. It's developed far beyond that now. From information gained from the DVLA, I have been able to learn that despite the myths and speculation, the cars DID leave the country, although it's not yet known where they went but they did not sit in England for 3 years. I have a contact who was directly involved with the F D H cars can logged the VIN plates in a scrap book which he kept for sentimental reasons. From data gained from DVLA and owners, I can now say what interior was fitted to what car. I know that 2/3rds are still on the road being used, whilst 1/3rd are off the road/scrapped or being driven illegally, I know that all but 2 cars were registered on the same day, all of them were first owned by Rover and due to import laws, they could not sell them for 6months, hence why when they offered them to staff, they were not available until March of the following year.

I've learn a load more too but I don't think most people on here would appreciate the real value of the information.

So to summarise, No, the list was not created to have a dig at owners of this particular group of cars, it was a search for information. Thats why we also have a Tomcat Racer register to provide information on all of the genuine Tomcat Racers to those who are interested.

It's also about archiving information now that will soon be lost forever if not done.

I'm also not in the slightest saying the F D H cars are better, they are not. They are theoretically identical to other top spec coupes, however, top spec was not requested very often buy new owners so if you want a turbo with full leather and air con, then your going to be drawn to an F D H model. Basically each car should be given it's own merits, some F D H ones are good, some are bad, it's the same story with every other coupe turbo. I'd never go out purposefully to buy an F D H but I wouldn't dismiss one, if it was the best of all the cars at the time, I'd have it, if it wasn't, then I wouldn't buy it.

And going off topic, but related and totally my own view

The whole F D H arguement on this forum is completely pointless if you ask me. When you put children in charge of the swear filter it says it all. I'd have thought the admin/moderators would act a little more responsible. If you take a look at the rules and regs, then any time the F D H letters are put together, the person who writes it, and the person (whoever it was) who set the swear filter, is breaking the rules and gets a strike so by now most members should have technically be banned.

1. Insults - Please refrain from posting insults/sarcasm of any kind, if you are joking please try and make it clear of your intentions. If you are found to be insulting members and breaking the above rule, you will receive a ‘Strike’, if it happens a second time it will be an instant ban (based on Moderator/Admins overall decision)
Some F D H owners might find it an insult and it's certainly sarcasm.

However, the mod's and admin do a great job with the rest of the site, it's purely this issue that I have a problem with.

But that can be said for any forums not just this one though. No matter how hard you try you will NOT please everybody all the time. If you don't agree with anything, then that is your right, no one if forcing you too, its one reason there are other forums that I no longer use because of their views and attitudes, my choice, no one has made me.

I doubt anyone will clone them. Most Rovers arn't worth the effort (sorry to offend) but you would clone newer cars.
