Jonny's Vtec Coupe

Post by Si »

Don't really know how to start this post but still.

On the way back to uni last tuesday Jonny had a rear blowout on the M10 motorway just after overtaking a car doing about 65mph. The car went sideways and hit the start of the inside lane motorway barrier on the drivers side.

Basically it was like hitting a ramp. The car rolled six times and he was stuck upside-down for 2 hours while the emergency services got him out.

Not a cut on him but he has a broken bone in the base of his back from the intial impact. Tuesday he was moved to Stanmore Royal, which is a specialist hospital for spinal injuries for an operation, at 5mph under police convoy.

Luckily Jonny's quick thinking, he breathed in and pulled the seatbelt as tight as possible and let go of the wheel and held onto the seat before impact, no doubt this helped reduce further injurys.

Yesterday he had an operation on his back, and now has a 6 inch titanium rod in his back bolted to lumber 1 and 3. Lumber 2 suffered a compression wedge fracture. He is on the way to being back on his feet now, but it will take a long time before things are back to normal. He is currently recovering in Stanmore hospital, he should be able to move at least, as he has spent nearly 10 days lying on his back.

Here are some pictures of the car.

Obviously it could of been a lot worse, especially if someone was in the passenger seat, he had only just dropped me and a friend off at the airport for our week long holiday.

I can only echo the words of the others. When Si told me bout this on monday i was gobsmacked. You dont think that this can happen but it does.

The main thing is that jonny is alive and will recover from this.

I think the mods that jonny has done to the car have actually helped it in staying rigid, the braces front and rear i think may have helped it not collaspe as much.

Get well soon.

Si,

please pass on our best wishes to Jonny and wish him a speedy recovery from myself and Clare.

I'm glad that no one else was hurt and that Jonny has had a relatively lucky escape, I'm sure it doesn't seem like that to him right now but looking back in time I'm sure it will.

Cheers

Not really much to say that hasn't already been said about the shock factor. That was one hell of an accident.

I'm very glad to know he survived the accident and escaped more serious injury. Please add my very best wishes to those already expressed. I hope he's back on his feet soon.

I was shocked when Si told me last week, just couldn't believe it

But good to know he's out and about, i was going to try and visit him today but the weather and a outer CV joint issue has forced me to reconsider :( Just wondering if i should take him grapes or a cv joint that i need help with ... lol ... knowing jonny i think he'd be happier with the CV joint ... lol
