If they are in Auckland, they will have no problems finding accomsation for under 20 quid a night.
From what i rember Base Backpackers, just off Queen St is around 30 dollars a night, which is a massive tenner a head. And thats one of the nicer backpacker places.
There is a very cheap backpackers on Anzac Ave in auckland, it is up the road from food town, i think its called Auckland City Hotel, that is about 7 quid a night for a private room, basic but cheap, There are also loads of car garages near there.
My advice to them would be get themselves down to the iSite at Sky tower (Can't miss it, its the tallest building there, just make sure you jump off the top off it whilst there, well worth it) ask in there, give them any budget restraints you have, and they'll even book it for you, how nice.

Anybody know the backpacker place 'Footprints' we stayed their when we got to Sydney.
We were greeted with cockroaches on the first night, suprisingly we moved on to Bondi Beach the next day and stayed at Noah's Backpackers!

The place that i stayed in in Sydney was called MAZE Backpackers, its not the Ritz by any means, but there was no cockroachs at all, and when i paid 90 quid for 5 night accomodation for 2 people i can't really complain, we had a double room, non of this sharing in dorm larky.
Footprints was just over the road from Maze, they ran loads of inter hostel compertitions and things, like with the beach footie and, drinking comps on the night out. They underesitmated my abilty to down a bottle of alcho pop tho
If they are in Sydney i strongley recomend them finding a pub called 'Scruffys' its just round the corner from MAZE back packers, and they have a fantasic deal, $5 dollars for a pint and steak meal, work it out thats less than £2.50 for a pint, steak and chips. You can't go wrong there
HTH guys
