Todays Redline USSC, new scottish fwd record.

Post by Ross9 »

Well, today was the redline magazines Ultimate Scottish Street Car at Crail.

It had become apparent the greddy e-manage wasn't going to work on the Rover, so to get the power output up to what we wanted, we added some nitrous.

In the qualifying sessions today I steadily improved as I got the hang of driving it.

My new time.... 12.880 @ 113.9mph, with a 2.21 60ft , to say I was chuffed with that is an understatement.

Then it was on to the head to head eliminators, I was sitting first position going into these, the only fwd under 13 seconds at the time.

First up was the Corsa Turbo, that had run 13.6 in the morning, came off the line in 1st, keeping away from full throttle, into 2nd and WOT to activate the gas, into 3rd and checked where the Corsa was, good bit behind so I switched the gas off, into 4th then backed off through the line for a 13.7 @ 95

Next up was the 350 bhp Mk3 Astra Gsi, 13.2 it had run in the morning, no such letting off etc here, but was a clear car lenght or so through the line in front of it, 13.0 at 113.9mph

then we had to wait for the other heats for rwd and 4wd to take place.

and so to the final, this was against Wallace Performance's mk2 Astra GTE, with a C20 LET engine, FMIC, water injection, etc etc.

In the morning he had done 13.07, then parked it up most of the day to save the engine, in the finals he cranked the boost up a fair bit I'd reckon, terminals were 4mph higher anyway lol, and he had me by about half a car lenght through the line, I ran a 13.04 @ 114.5mph on that run off of a 2.38 60ft, so I came runner up in fwd, these things happen.

However my 12.880 @ 113.9mph was the fastest fwd time of the day, and as far as I know, a new fwd record for Scotland. So I can't complain and had a great day out, very burnt now, and on the tripe n onions.

Was good to meet Mark and Adam in the CRX turbo today as well, the wee orange car goes very well considering the amount of bits still standard.

Nah, e-manage isnt going to be a goer and dont have the DTA cash, so will just be MEMS plus gas, which works surprisingly well :D, might get it down a shade further yet though, got some other stuff I can try.

I ran 16.5/17.0 psi on MEMS and a 50 shot of gas today, standard 4 injectors with the rail pressure adjusted via fse to get a decent AFR (set this up a fortnight ago) AFR wasnt checked with the gas fitted, so there may be some room for improvement with some fine tuning, but maybe not, it felt pretty spot on as it was. Nitrous made a good difference, 13.20 @ 110.3 without gas 2 weeks ago, 12.88 @ 113.9 with a 50 shot today.

Thank you for a very good race in the final Ross.

Yes, I did up the boost a little, sorry, your car is quick :P
No laughing gas though.

Just for the record, it isn't a wallace performance car, but I do work there.
The shell is a total shed, so I wouldn't have WP stickers on it until the finals.
The car is really a gather-up of old bits I've collected over the years - standard engine, old head, odd HT leads, TD5 intercooler etc etc.

Any idea what my numbers were in the final?

And to finish on a cheeky note, 4 vauxhalls in the top 8 fwd cars in scotland? Come on you rover guys, get your fingers out!

It was a close race indeed Russ, sorry for getting it wrong about the car being a wallace performance one, 2nd hand info I was told on the day. The astra can certainly shift and the fwd title was hotly contested, 0.8 seconds between the fastest and slowest car going into the eliminators. Well done again on the win.

Yeah David is also having an engine done at the moment so we should have another very quick Rover running up here, at the moment most of the very very quick ones are down south, look forward to seeing his go.

Congratulations on that time Ross. Very impressive!

I should probably apologise to you... if I hadn't missed 4th in my semi against Russ's Astra, he wouldn't have been in the final to beat you... (his words btw, not mine!)

Mark and I got back to London about 4:30 this morning...it was a hectic 48 hours/1200 miles but the car and us are still running. Although, today has pretty much been a write off as far as work is concerned. :ermm: ZZZzzzz....

Speaking of write offs, fortunately on this trip, I managed not to inflict any further damage to any Rover's in the Crail car park...

Good to me you, might see you up there again sometime next year... with some forgies and a bit more boost maybe.

That would be cool Adam, yeah Russ was saying he thought you missed 4th when you raced, no point worrying about the what if's eh, thats the joy and dissapointment of head to heads for you, and the head to heads in all classes yesterday was certainly eventful, so a good advert all round.

was good to meet you and Mark as I was saying, long weekend for you two indeed.

lol, I was probably the first to notice, I've been waiting on the times going online all week so I could check. Cheers for making sure though :D

Nothing like doing it by the skin of my teeth eh, reckon I'll need to improve to hold on to it for any lenght of time though, a lot of fast fwd's kicking around these days.
