Skyline sold to make way for....

Post by MarkCoupe »

A 505 of course

Yup finally i have an O series original tickford maestro with 55k recorded miles from new, ive wanted one for the longest time(since my mum had a new one), and now shes here

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y70/Co ... C-020S.jpg

Running about 8psi on the md42 with 60trim, the torque is brutal already by tonight and 15psi, i cant imagine what itll be like, faster than anything ive driven by a long way.

Ahhhh the happyness.

Immediate plans are:

Flush Oil and coolant and refill and change oil filter. New plugs, flush breather system in particular, set up carb properly(in a bit of an odd state of tune at the mo), find out why the central locking fires when the window goes down(maybe rod is bent and under the window, stop the DV firing on practically any throttle but full.

Long term:

Boot floors coming away, sort that, big brakes(im sure theyre made of wood!), goodyear eagle f1 tyres all round, poly bushes, and make the engne bay like new, oh and ge a much quiter dump valve.

Thanks to Rick, a very nice chap, who didnt mind me and GK arriving at 10.30 pm on a sunday night.

Thanks to Gareth, i didnt even know there were that many points to inspect on a car, and for driving us up there in the trusty monty, and for showing me the light(multi valve bad, 8 valve good).

Yeah Pauls looks a good buy, and quick as donkey boy, but this was a good price for what it was , and i can put my spare money into a fast interest savings acct towards a deposit for a flat/very small house. :D

Good choice. Satisfy the housing need as well as the need for speed :D

I suspect Mark will be seeking your tinkering experience at some point ;)

I'll be honest, it must have been a nightmare for the seller to have you turn up to give the car a going over :o You literally know every panel inside and out! Hope you were gentle ;)

I knew you'd snap her up Mark, good on you!

I've wanted THIS particular car for sometime (since it went up) but I already have one to deal with and my garage is choca.

Keep it clean and do not be tempted by any evil-doer, to T16 it :P

Thanks mate. I would never t16 it. T16s are lovely engines, and sound sweet as hell, but its time for a change and the all or nothing of an O series with an MD42 is seriously good fun :D

Well like i said its been scrappily set up, but the engine after the service and clean out today is soooooosmooth and quiet, until on boost

At the mo, a wild guess would be 160ish brake and its on 8psi, fuellings all over the shop, GK thinks once finely tuned it should make 230-235bhp@ a nice safe 15psi.Still pondering over a cam and GK head, we'll see. Weight on Letstorque bhp site is 966kg, but Gareth said its closer to 1050, still fairly light for all the torque it makes.

It had a full restore in 02/03 , its bleeding from one rear quarter-roof seem, and theres a little patch of surface rust in one of the door shuts, and the front door on one corner, but other than that its a hell of alot better than ive seen apart for GKs of course, you have to expect it with these cars, all cars have their problems and with the maestros its rust, but if you keep on top of it, you should be ok, dont forget its a 91 so its 14yrs old.

James, of course matey anytime.

Something about older simpler squarer cars that just looks so cool/smart/sporty. Don't think there is any new car I would take over a Mk2 200. (I know its a Maestro)

Yep, its much smoother to drive now, breather system was really clogged up and this will take a while for the residual gunk to be burnt off (as you could see in the bottom of the air filter housing)

It's definatly running less than standard boost yet it is running enough fuel for 13-14psi with its current set up, we shall sort this out with the carb rebuild today and get the boost up to that level, should go a treat then.

With an MD42 it will definatly knock out more power than on a standard 45 trim T3 although i dont know the exact spec of it, would be nice to find out?

Car is nice and solid underneath sills and floor both rot free (thats more than you can say for most Metro's or even Ford Escort's of its age) just the few bits here and there that need taking back to bare metal and blowing in but between us we can have this done easily.

Cross spokes are gay. Suit someone looking for concours but the wheels look great, mine are same style but 1 inch smaller because i wanted to keep the cheap tyres.
