A Diesel Question

Haven't got a clue about any of the rover diesel engines, Ive been looking at 2.0 turbo D's, but what would be the better engine, I know there has been a few and heard the L series is 1 of the better, but don't know what years they were made or models they were put into, plus what sort of mileage you can expect before thing start to go bang like HG's etc.

Any advice would be a great help :D

The 2.0 liter L series is fitted to the bubble 200/400/600 models.

0-60 in the 600 di is 10.8.

I think there was an intercooled version and a non intercooled version.

My Dad had an L series in an early freelander and it proved bomb proof for best part of 100k, (the only part that did lol)

Overall it seems to be a very strong engine but having never owned i will let others comment more :)

Its the only diesel engine from 98 on mate, apart from the 75 which had the Bmw M47R engine.

All 200/400 bubbles and 600 have the L Series engine
Only the 75/ZT has the beemer engine.

The 25/45/zr/zs got a slightly revised fuel system which give more torque but more problems too.

My 600Di is on 192k miles and produces nearly 130bhp and 195ftlb.

L series is fairly bombproof as an engine. The usual gremlins are MAF sensor on the 25/45 etc and wire chafing on them all. Intercooler hoses are a consumable item!

Forgot to say that the 200/400 were available in both non intercooled models "d" and intercooled ones "Di"'s.

The intercooled ones give more power and better economy as standard.
Intercooled is 105 and non intercooled is 84 I think.

Although you can of course add an intercooler to the non intercooled models. I've just tweaked one that is now running 26psi of boost.
