Afternoon All,
Looking for some advice. I (well its the girlfriends) have an AIWA XR-M120 compact stereo but it does have a subwoofer connection on the rear (just a phono port). In a service manual I've found it says subwoofer output 1v.
Ideally Id like a passive subwoofer to keep the amount of cables down to a minimum and to just give it that little extra on the bass front.
Whilst we are at it, could you get away with any other speakers? Specs are as followed:
<Amplifier section>
Power output<100EZ,120K,121EZ>
Rated: 8 W +8 W
(16 ohms, T.H.D. 1%,1 kHz/DIN 45500)
Reference: 10 W + 10 W
(16 ohms, T.H.D. 10 %,1 kHz/DIN 45324)
Power output<130HR,HT,150K,151,152EZ>
Rated: 12 W + 12 W
(8 ohms, T.H.D. 1%, 1 kHz/DIN45500)
Reference: 15 W + 15 W
(8 ohms, T.H.D. 10 %, 1 kHz/DIN45324)
Total harmonic distortion
0.07 % (7.5 W, 1 kHz, 16 ohms,
DIN AUDIO)<100EZ,120K,121EZ>
0.07 % (7.5 W, 1 kHz, 8 ohms,

Re: Suitable Subwoofer for small home stero
I have a pioneer home stereo. VERY small speakers and a sub, the sound is amazing!
They are a few years old so you may get a sub or whole system cheap on flea bay
The sub is :- Pioneer sl-7
This is example of all speakers, though not cheap

Hope that helps.

This is a differant version, use just the sub and sell the rest on.

Re: Suitable Subwoofer for small home stero
If the stereo has a phono connection, chances are it's a line out and has insufficient power to run a normal speaker let alone a sub-woofer.
You'll need an active sub, I've an Eltax 10" on my system, it's great !
