I have Norton and it missed this virus. I used Hitmanpro to fix the issue. My version of the virus blocked safe mode and command prompt. So I have created a bootable USB. If anybody needs instructions are here: http://privacy-pc.com/how-to/police-cen ... moval.html

Not sure what to do with Norton now, I thought it is a good software.

My dad fell victim to this, it was my fault as I introduced him to a popular site that is red by title as he was getting crappy videos from torrent sites.

Unfortunately, he lost a lot of music as I just loaded from a restore point.

It is good to do regular backups but we usually forget about them

That's a bit strange as Windows System Restore should only alter system files.

Backups used to be a massive PITA until I got a NAS box and a couple of drives. Automated scheduled weekly backup to another drive in the NAS and I just plug an external drive in every couple of weeks, click one button and update that version as well.

I don't even use anti-virus and touch wood haven't had a virus in probably 8 years. From what I understand viruses can't automatically run and need some kind of user acceptance - be it clicking a spurious link or running an exe. Is that right? Anyhow, if I ever get or got a virus I'd just fresh install, takes less than half an hour from a bootable usb.

yeh I ended up there after googling T16 turbo.

But yes, backups are critical. I backup my porn stash to another internal drive, an extrernal drive, the NAS, to a loose Harddrive i store in the car incase the house burns down and a set on bluray which is kept at my parents house. Just in case.
Dont want to risk loosing that.
