Is Munky right about Avatar?

Post by radddogg »

Following on from this thread

Is Avatar really as bad as Munky says?

No discussion, just simple good or bad.

Where's the option for 'Meh'?

I thought it wasn't that bad, but not that good either. Watchable, but forgettable.

It was OK, but just reminded me of watching a disney movie. Same plot, same graphics. You do get to see sigourney weaver almost naked, but then you did in aliens, and no offence, but she was a lot younger then.

I can't for the life of me figure out why there is such a hype, apart from the fact it is 3D.

Hurt locker was also a watchable movie, but not exactly cimena of the centuary.

Honestly Zombieland was better than both, just for the lulz.

Zombieland can be watched again and again. I enjoyed the others though.

Was good IMO. Maybe not as good as all the hype, but was still good. Glad I saw it in 3D too.

Its not just the film though is it

The whole 3D experience (proper 3D) was class.

I thought it was a really good film and deserves the praise it gets, then again its all down to personal preference etc

Reminded me of a Jack Nicholson line in a Batman film which was a corruption of a quote from Robespierre the French revolutionary.

that iPhone thingy works well though doesn't it...and they do have a strong history for designing product which make technology more user friendly, such as windows for example.

Apart from crashing and looking hideous you mean (oh and running games).

The iPhone? Well it works well enough i guess, depending on you want to do. Shame its ugly, old and limited, and expensive.

Ok well got the Blu-ray. Whatever you think of the film the blu-ray is absolutely stunning. It really doesnt need 3D at all. The disc is one of the best ive ever seen. Its absolutely reference quality, both picture and audio are stunning. The review at blu-ray.com says it all.

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Avatar-Bl ... view/7847/

Even if you dont like the film, the disc is a must. Like in the early days of HD, certain films were a must, just for the spectacle. I think The Chronicles of Riddick was an example of a rubbish film with a reference quality transfer. Perhaps thats why Avatar has broken yet another record. Its the fastest selling BD ever, selling 1.5 million in the US on the first day. The Dark Knight held the record before with 600k.

It was, but it was no where near as good as pitch black.

On a side note, I just watched 'knowing' on sky movies... tinky winky LOL what an utter utter bag of sh*t. I had tears of laughter rolling down my face when the clouds opened and the 'higher beings' appeared. Epic.

Youwont be disappointed. The picture really is flawless. No grain, no shimmer, no artifacting whatsoever. Its got to be one opf the best BDs ive seen. As long as your TV is big and your speakers loud its a winner. The BD shows that the film doesnt really need 3D at all.

Blu-ray.com mentioned that at the very end of the disc after the credits there is a THX demo. It sounds fabulous!

For me movies have to offer something above and beyond TV. Most of the best movies could have been made for TV. Avatar couldn't, that why its important we have movies like this.

I think it gets better the more times you see it. You switch off at the cheesier parts and can then just enjoy the visuals, especially the battle scene at the end, which is pretty awesome.
