To be honest, virgin via coax i.e cable modem ALWAYS gets rock solid top speed for me , and i have been using it for well over 10 years back in the blueyonder days.

As long as the host is fast enough i can always top it out.

Try telling that to the Virgin Media Business consultant trying to persuade me to stick with ADSL on our premesis.

No need for a cable modem sir. STFU and give me coax b1tch !

I've just done a check on my wireless system through Virgin. I'm paying for 10mb and got this from the speedtest site.

I'm with Virgin and live 4.2 miles away from the exchange and I get a massive 1 Meg maximum  I'm soooo glad I'm not into gaming or downloading movies, music etc.

TBF many poor download/pings are down to poor hardware in the household. Modem, router, wifi card, network card, etc then you've got software issues, background services, interference, other users and your next door neighbour leeching your unsecured network.....

Chances are if you aren't tech savvy you could be contributing to your poor speeds.

I've recently downgraded to the 10Mb package as I don't steal pirated xbox games and movies as often as I used to.

I've always praised VM for their quality and value and I have to stick by it. The phone service isn't amazing i.e you have to press a million buttons before you can speak to someone and they will do what they can to make you upgrade services but afterall they are a business and they have to cut costs to drive a profit.

We're paying under £50 for broadband, phone and V+ HD. Sky can't really touch it IMO. When I try to blag a free upgrade or reduction in cost by quoting the latest Sky offer they always call my bluff and read out the actual service offering from Sky and its always less so I end up sticking to what I have.

"Up to 24mb"

It was also a fairly busy time when I checked, and talktalk do limit people during busy times :x
