good action camera not too expensive

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

good action camera not too expensive

Post by tim61uk »

Any recommendations for a good action camera that i can use in and around the car.

Go pro seem to be best but are also expensive. Are ther any good cheaper alternaives that people can vouch for

The TVL SVC200 is what you want.

Or purely as an in-car dashcam, the Mini 0803.

http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/6/15/ ... creen.html

I have the SVC200 and it really is a decent piece of kit for £100. Comes with strap and velcro mounts, handlebar mounts and a decent suction mount.

Im not keen on the 120degree field of view tho, looks a bit weird!

My online concern is attaching a expensive camera to outside of car and it falling off. Plus our second little one is due in october so not got loads of brass to spend on one.

have you got one greg

i did

epic tim honestly worth the little extra

just sold my hero 3 as i am no longer "race car driver"

these go pro units are designed for this exact purpose

the number of tv shows i see with them on suction cups is unreal

i mean drag racers
drifters
competitive racing

should cover you in your scooby do?

2nd hand go pro was what i went for (an original hero HD), havent used it for in car stuff but used it with suction mounts on the motorbike and on the mountain bike with a helmet mount and it coped fine. Picture quality is reasonably good, slightly less sharp than my mates hero 3 but not terrible.

Go for the sony action cam,

Better colour balance
Better battery life
Better mounting system (i.e. standard not some stupid plastic poop)
Will use any type of Micro sd card, not like the gopro which is very picky.
You don't need to use the waterproof housing on the new ones (AS100) which makes the camera very small.
Stereo microphones.
Time Code.
And the most important + of them all Image stabilisation.

No really sure why people buy GoPros tbh.

Oh and if you go for something like the AS 20 they are only £160.00

Turn level down to 70% for a start

And if using external to car use the sealed backing plate

How are you mounting and where about

I have yet to see any of your footage

Been trying anything 1080 upwards

The 4k options lower the fps so fast moving objects tend to appear "buffering"

Yep when i did silverstone i had it too high and got a lot of blurring / buffering on replay.

Will play with it somemore and change location, as it on the rear cage and a bit far back tbh.
