richard littlejohn in the mail

Post by bigboykarl »

'With Britain in the grip of an epidemic of stabbings and drunken disorder, with chief constables complaining that crimes by illegal immigrants are out of control, the police have announced a clampdown - on car number plates.

People who tamper with their registrations to spell out their names, such as S1NDY, will have their number plates confiscated and face fines of up to £1,000.

I've always thought it not worth the effort.

R1CHD doesn't really cut it for me. Surely it's easier to change your name by deed poll to LN05 XYZ.

I suspect the real reason for this "clampdown" is because non-standard plates confuse speed cameras and help some people escape fines and driving bans.

Still, we can all sleep easily in our beds knowing Plod's on the trail of these dangerous number-plate bandits.

M1ND how you go.'

Dont have a problem with it, if your using a dodgy font to hide that you have no insurance or whatever from the ANPR cameras then if you get pulled and fined i couldnt care less!

A registration plate is to display the Vehicle Registration Mark not to w4nk off to the 14 year olds in maccies. To stop all manner of crimes the police need to know who each vehicle is registered to. I've no problem with people buying fancy VRMs but if you can't afford to spell your name properly then don't obscure your plate to do so.

I thought that this was being relaxed because of all the new-Europeans in this country with their LHD MOT-less four-wheeled dustbins, so as not to offend them .... or is it UK only plates? :o

Must confess, I'm glad to hear it's actually being enforced to some degree, particularly regarding the fonts. Spacing doesn't bother me too much, as it can still be read automatically.

Stupid non-standard fonts really annoy me on cars, regardless of whether or not the owner just fancies the look of them or not, they can't be read by ANPR, and are 100% illegal under the MOT regs. It's like advertising to be pulled over!

When I used to work in the motorbike MOT trade, I had a chat with one of the local fuzz about this topic when his bike was in for MOT and we were having a coffee. He said that statistically, about 80% of people pulled for having illegal fonts or incorrectly sized plates also have something else to hide regarding their vehicle, and I'd be inclined to agree.

Personally, if I have to have my car completely legal and with ANPR-readable plates, I don't see why any other bugger should ignore the law.

agreed about the illegal fonts as some of them are so blatently illegal that they just shouldnt be made lol however, mine is JUST spacing. There all the correct size and font, ive just moved a letter over. Its clear, im hiding nothing else, its just moved over to say LOU thats all. Im still going to put it on, well see what happens. I used to go well over the top with it. On my old coupe turbo, i had my front mount, so i put a TINY plate on the front. Straight plate which said L8US.B i dotted the 8 to make it look like an O and dotted inbetween the S and the B to seperate them. i gotta admit, i was pushing it there and i did get pulled for it and they had every reason to do so as it was a bit on top. But this time, it will just be normal, with 1 minor change. Hopefully ill b ok :(

There are obviously some members on here that seem to have missed the point of the thread starter ???
Or am I the only one who thinks the Police should be sorting crime rather than wasting time on number plates.

Oh but wait, its easier to catch some kn0b who messes with his plate font coz he is a bit vain.

My wife gets attacked by a shop lifter in work and the Police don't even bother attending, as they know the chance of catching anyone is zero.

But motorists are a easy target and gets the figures down.

Crime figures are going down ????????
Don't make me farking laugh.

Agreed. Minor offences like this can be annoying, but I think some prioritisation is needed here.

100% agree, easy target the motorist, and less of a risk to them for maybe getting stabbed or shot by confronting a robber or rapist. :x

They say crime is at an all time low, but gun crime is at an all time high :? Now that REALLY doesn't make sence

But what is th epoint of arresting scum for such crimes? Once in font of the judge tere is n real punishment. At least if they do someone for traffic violations there is instant punishment. What incentive to bobbies have to arrest an asbo yob? I heard about a lad getting 7 asbos. I thought an asbo as like a final written warning before prison. But the prisons are too full. Well I say hang rapists, paedopiles and murderers then there will be plenty of space for the asbo yobs. That will in turn create housing for the immigrants so there is no building work for the Polish and they can all go back home.

Oh and while we are ranting I want to know why I pay £29 a week NI? Some goes towards a p1ss por pension but I bet a lot goes to the NHS. Or should that be International Health Service. I wish I coulsopt out and go private. Then I might be able to go the the dentist for the first time in 15 years.
