diesel ftw!
Picked up my new banger on sunday, 95 citroen zx 1.9D , 157k, long tax and mot for 250quid, and its white! that makes 4 white cars in a row lol.
electric windows/sunrfoor/mirror, remote cl, not bad little car.
just re brimmed it, 11.7p/mile, so its already costing half of what the 820 did, and i havent serviced it yet or freed the binding handbrake...
needs a little work to bring it upto my standard, the solid disks are shocking, and the pedal feel is appauling due to the nackered handbrake, and cable...
plus, its just nice to have a car that you dont have to care about, its got a few dents, but everythign works, and not much to go wrong with the simple engine.
This'll give me chance to get some larger scale jobs done on the 820, which you just cant do in a half day or day off etc.

not bothered about running it on veg oil... ill be laughing once the hand brake is un jammed for mpg...
looks like i have a glow plug right into the pump, as a heater aswell, nice touch if i did want to run on veg oil...
did anyone ever work out where one stands as registering a bio-diesel producer?
Also lol, another crazy idea i had, were fuel additives.
how does one distinguish what is a fuel additive (like redex, octane booster, etc), and fuel?
it must be specified somewhere what is an appropriate upper limit to the usage of additives? quite why anyone would want to add veg oil to the diesel as an additive though is beyond me

In that case your "O" is well wide of the mark.Punx0r wrote:I meant it's a diesel AND a citroen - not a good spec list IMO
Citroens are like Rovers - usually derided by people who´ve never owned one. We had a BX 17TD - it was a fabulous car: comfortable, sure footed, reliable and very quick. Two other BXs gave excellent, reliable service and I just wish that they'd fitted the 1.9TD engine to them (as they did the ZX and Xantia).
Citroen can also show the rest of the world a thing or two about suspension.

Well HGs are a lot cheaper to fix than the fancy suspension that is in some Citroens. Fantastic designers the French, some of their stuff tends to break though. In saying that a ZX without all the fancy stuff should prove to be a very shrewd buy. Good luck with it Scott.

Cracking spec, I was all for getting another until Fijit turned up, Xantia with sorted suspension is one hell of a comfy car, and SX or VSX well spec'd too with all the toys inc ACPunx0r wrote:I meant it's a diesel AND a citroen - not a good spec list IMO
Beg to differ, had all the spheres done on mine, bill came in at well under £200! It may look and sound fancy, but it's really not that complicated really618ireland wrote:Well HGs are a lot cheaper to fix than the fancy suspension that is in some Citroens. Rob's spot on - maintaining a Citroen hydraulic system actually costs LESS than keeping conventional spec in good order. New spheres are just 30 quid each and a hydraulic flush costs just a little more than that. Mine did best part of 200k on original suspension and clutch - try that in a 200 and you'd be on the second or third set of (non self levelling) suspension.!
As I say, derided by people who've never owned one.

Point taken gents, I suspect that a large part of the suspension system has been omitted from these overhauls though. Dad worked with a chap who had a BX estate and the suspension was well knackered, the Citroen garage recommended far more than a few spheres and a flush. I have never owned one though so I must have gotten the wrong end of the stick.

For about three months, some years ago, I ran my mate's DS21 while he was away in Ghana. It was the most beautiful car that I have ever driven and ever probably will. Smoother than a Roller and as quick and nimble as a Pug 205 GTi. It was like driving on a cloud.
He later traded it in for an SM - the fore-runner of the CX with the six-pot Mazzer engine. Another astounding car, but not a patch on the old Goddess.
You'll never get me owning a diesel, though. Personal thing but, to me, they belong in trucks and tractors and that's where they should stay...
The howl of a V8;
The bellow of a V12;
The clatter of a diesel, no matter how many cylinders.
