I know yeah but what can i do? I havent had an accident so at least i can put that i claimed, but no accident on any applications. Its just a pisstake that this can happen and I have to pay out for it. Im definitely going to be sending an angry letter to Vauxhall. Putting it on headed MOD paper with a line about serving my country etc usually works

The point I was trying to make is that if this is Vauxhall's fault then their insurance should be picking it up so you don't have to make a claim on yours.

The assessors report doesnt state what the cause of the fire was. £6k of damage, one Cat C.

Insurers offered me £3700 in the end which is more than its worth i reckon. Finance outstanding was £3k though :(

Just glad it didnt do it when we first bought it though! Just sent the V5 and paperwork to the insurers, just waiting on the cheque now to be honest.

Im going to phone vauxhall tomorrow and see what they say, then its angry letter time.

Are you certain you or someone in the house have not upset someone recently? The attractive young woman who owned this nice coupe was awoken in the early hours to discover her car on fire... she has her suspicions...

Ha doubtful - I work in Bomb Disposal now!

Put it this way, the fire was directly in the middle of the engine bay. It took three firemen with a massive crowbar five minutes to get nowhere under the bonnet, they had to resort to the hydraulic cutters to get into it.

In the pics there is still ice on the windscreen so i thought the bonnet release in the cockpit would have been ok.

Maybe the end of the cable that was directly in the big fire was the one that melted?

No, you can release the bonnet from the first catch from under the drivers footwell. After that theres a plastic pull thing that pops out under the bonnet to release it off the second catch, it was this thing that had melted therefore it stayed down.

IT was about -10 when the fire happened, thats why theres still snow.
