Back on track then
I'd say stay out of Greek or Italian bonds =) What is on the rise is precious metals.
Not sure what you can put your money in in the UK but gold, lithium etc is usually a safe bet.
I don't understand why folk are so keen on saving for their kids. I know it's a nice gesture and I'm not poo-pooing it. For me the best way to teach them the value of money is to show them how tight money is when they're growing up, then they'll be hell bent on not wanting their lives to be the same and get off their bums to find decent jobs and start saving themselves.
I can't understand why parents say thing like "I've got 2 kids to put through Uni and it's costing us a fortune".
WTF!!! If they make the decision to go to Uni then they can blummin well pay for it themselves. It's THEIR choice to go into further education so they can fund it. Paying for them to go isn't teaching them the value of money. We never had a pot to pee in when we were growing up. We never went abroad, EVER. We didn't have the latest fashions or labels come to that. Our school shoes were always from a local seconds type shoe shop BUT, we were always clean, well dressed, presentable and always had enough to eat. And that's where I got my value of money from.
Exactly. I've heard people say about saving for their kids for uni or paying for this that and the other....
Why?
Out of most people I know I'm probably the most sensible and capable with money, I've also done the most with what I'd had.
However, I'm also the one who's had the least in the way of handouts. I've never had a car bought for me, never had cash given to me, never borrowed money off my parents, supported myself through uni.
In fact, when the ex buggered off and I had to buy her out of my flat I got rather insulted when my parents told me that they help me out if I needed money.
I pointed out to them that I was a 26 year old man and if I wasn't able to look after myself financially by that point then I was not doing well, and in all honesty I found them offerring me money rather insulting.
I never have, or plan to take money from them. I would loose self respect tbh. They went through a lot more than I've had to to get where they are, I'm not going to be lazy or selfish and take it from them.
I've also pointed out that I expect no inheritance and I'm fine with them just blowing everything they own on holidays before they go. It's their money, they earnt it with years of blood sweat and tears, they should enjoy it, not me.

I love my little girl more than anything in the world. I'd do anything for her. It saddens me that the world isn't perfect for her. I want to do everything I can to make her life the best it can be.
