Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
Ive just swapped my rover 220 coupe turbo for a 2.6l V6 Vectra SRi.
Now id originally thought that id have to pay more for fuel running the bigger engined car but ive just stuck £15 in it and it has done 110 miles and is still going. Thats driving motorway with a few boots anda bit of town driving every so often. Ive worked out (correct me if im wrong)that thats at about 33mpg. Im well chuffed!
My old rover coupe turbo would probably be lucky to do half that on £15 driving the same way.
Im just wondering what other rover coupe turbos do and if my old one was over fuelling as the exhaust used to pop quite alot.

I feel the need................. the need to boost!
Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
£15 and 110 miles?
Assuming 1.15 a litre, that's 2.87gallons
So, 38mpg.
Firstly, I'd say that's pretty good going for a 2.6 V6.
Secondly I'd say if you were getting 19mpg (half) from the coupe that was pretty poor.

Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
My tuned T16 easily gives me +25mpg of pure town driving, with constant stop-start short journeys..
It get 110/115miles to £20, so thats probably more like 28mpg or something. Thats grandad-style driving tho.

Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
From what I remember of these threads before, and there have been many, A 220 coupe should get anywhere between about 20mpg and maybe 40mpg ranging from driving the arse off it to driving like a grandad.
I think the average is somewhere around 25-30, which it usually is with that sort of power/weight in most cars of that age tbh.

Never paid attention to what my ti used , but it was very good on petrol , infact one of the best ive had in regards to that, strange as it was short journeys stop start driving. Dont drive like a grandad either.

Where is my beating stick.
MPG figures not pound notes! Just waaay to subjective and innacurate a measure. Brim the tank and get a reliable mpg figure and then it may not be as bad as it seems (or worse).
The max I've ever had out of a T16 is 32mpg on a long run.

Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
turbo shed was bad..coupe 2 is far worse.
If I'm getting 20mpg it'll be a miracle.
Not exactly booting it but the cost for the mileage is ridiculous in the new coupe.
so far i've put around £200 in it and done only 500 miles.
I know as said this is very innacurate measure but I think from those numbers I don't have to do scientific testing.
If I wanted great MPG I'd have bought a hybrid though

I'll get round to it....not so sure what it could be tbh and thought it was down to my driving or the fact i'd not done much miles in it...starting to think otherwise nowalexcornwall wrote:LMFAO! that's hideous dudeshen wrote:turbo shed was bad..coupe 2 is far worse.

Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
What can cause such poor mpg?
It's not using any water or oil so I reckon the engine is in an ok state..doesn't seem to make power like the turbo shed did but I dunno if the clutch is on it's way out.
Either way I'm spending around £30 a week and doing on average 15 miles per day through the week so around 75 miles to 100 miles. I realise this is rather poor but liveable atm.
Since getting it It's had a new petrol tank fitted (so it's not leaking and no petrol smell), cam belt and aux belt changed, engine flushed twice (to be sure) and topped with anti freeze..which is working perfectly. New thermostat fitted also...new plugs, leads, dizzy and rotor arm...oil system flushed and changed with filter ofc. These are just engine maintainance work since buying it but I dont think brakes, interior change or a strut brace would affect mpg lol.
No boost leaks I'm pretty certain of that and is at around 11.5psi boost with scorpion exhaust and apexi filter.
What's next to look at? Lambada sensor?

I'd check CTS and lambda sensor first off indeed

Remember if you actually use the full boost a lot a T turbo is effectively a 3.6l car

Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
I used to get 36mpg fast motorway driving (80mph +) and around 30 dead on around town and normal driving, you must have been on the red line a lot of the time to get 19mpg
will work for booze.
Re: Rover Turbos Miles Per Gallon
Bedford GT circuit (worst) 11.2mpg
Snetterton 13.4mpg
Cadwell (best) 14.2mpg
Coupe does 30-33mpg on a 80-85mph run up motorway.

noob question but..located where?
One is on the thermostat housing yes?
Where would the other one be?
And which one is to send temp to ecu as I'd suspect gauge one fine..will probably change both mind.

theyre next to each other on the housing, the single pin one is for the guage and the CTS as its known [brown plug] goes to the ECU

I used to own a quick and now quite rare sleek looking coupe but I've swapped it so that you'll never turn your head or notice me as different from the billion other vectra drivers on the road...mileage is surprising for an engine with a whopping 600 extra cc but then it is a fair bit slower and I can't help but wonder if a turbo adds a little more grunt than that extra 600cc I've gained.

Based on £1.20 per litre that's 39mpg.notroubleclubber wrote: ive just stuck £15 in it and it has done 110 miles and is still going.
I reckon there may have already been some fuel in the tank when you put the 15 quid in...
I'd be quite surprised if a V6 was more economical than a T16 turbo.
