Post your bicycle thread

Post by agw_01 »

Seeing as how we seem to have a thread for near enough everything else and as I've recently started cycling again, I thought it would be interesting to see who else uses a bike on a regular basis.

Pedal bikes only so motorcyclists, make your own thread kthx :P

Here's my bike, a Scott Sportster 60.

Having not had a bike in about 4 years I thought it was about time I took the plunge and got back on the saddle. Mainly to save some money and keep the mileage off the 420 (not to mention give it a bit of TLC).

Picked it up on Tuesday night and proceeded to ride it 9 miles home! I've used it every day since, cycling 12 miles to work and back. Noticeable improvement in my general fitness and stamina already!

Got pretty lucky with the weather last week but this week is supposed to be fairly crappy so I'll be picking up some mud guards and waterproofs fairly sharpish.

I havent touched my old bike since i passed my driving test  Occasionally me and the other half have talked about buying one each but living at the top of the steepest street in the village is putting us off lol. I usually drive the few hundred yards to the shops for a pint of milk tbh

I have a Raleigh M-Trax 4000ti, and a Dawes LX pretty old school nowadays but the raleigh is really light.

Haven't been on them for a year now due to pregnancy and little baby, will be back on them soon enough though.

Here is my little beasty

It's a 2010 Voodoo Bantu 18" which has has front crud catcher and rear mud guard installed, A trip computer and also a holder for my I phone and also a bike pump and holder on the bike.

I've removed the front and rear and wheel reflectors and so far the bike has been brilliant and really comfy to ride on and off road with it being a hard tail.

This pic was taken just after I got it home.

Similar story with me really. After passing my test I had little use for a bike. I still had one but very rarely used it.

When I moved out of home about 4 years ago, I didn't take it with me and it got chucked away. It was a pretty cheap and very heavy full suspension bike so wasn't that nice to ride. Decided I wanted a much lighter road bike for the commute and popping to the shops... I don't think I've ever been mountain biking so a big suspension bike was a little overkill for my needs.

My 1984 Ammaco Freestyler which I revamped some years back by having it pro resprayed (and stupidly put GT decals on) Haro knee saver bars, crank, rotary etc.

Cost around £225 back then if I remember rightly. Aaah, them were the days! Long hot summers, light nights and all of us playing on our BMX'S in the 80's

My severely overweight kona! Ive done 40 odd miles on this in a day, that was painful! Also got a 2010 Kona Jake the Snake cylcocross bike currently running on slicks, its pretty quick, my record for the 14 mile cycle to work is 46 minutes. Cant find any pics of it atm though

I've always hated the idea of no protection on these bikes too much of a chance to injure the twins.

don't have any pics of mine, it's a saracen xcell with marzochi bombers on the front and mud guards front and rear, haven't ridden it properly (regularly) for more than a year, have been trying to find the incentive to start again.. used to go mountain and road cycling with victor3 since he has broken the mental maestro he has lost himself in his cycling, it is good fun and i do enjoy it, did 3.5 hours a couple of months ago mountain biking at bracknell forest, was knackered afterwards, must do it more often, then i won't be so knackered.. regards ricky

My Hardcore hardtail ( use this for pretty much anything....trails....pump track....jumps....street)

shame I cant shift this 15 1/2 stone im carrying as id be as fast uphill as what I am downhill.

Thinking about training up next year and having a bash at 4x racing as i miss competing (previous xc racing and bmx street)

Grant, nice looking bike fella, what the trails like round by you? any good stuff? as regards to those conti speedkings Ive just taken a set of the mountain kings off as they were bald after about a dozen rides. is it just me or do continental use a really soft conpound?
I know softer compound means more grip but oh my god these didnt last long?

It was £550 but that was on the day they came out (coincidence) but you can probably gt them for less now. The original forks weighed a ton so I bought the Rockshox instead, they're a massive improvement over the originals :)

My 2010 Boardman HT Comp.

Hope seat QR and Schwalbe tyres, standard otherwise. Will be changing pedals shortly!

Image

I ditched the standard fit Speed Kings as they had terrible grip, and they were wearing rather quickly. I think it depends if you have the Black Chilli compound tyres, these are supposed to be awesome compared.

I went for Schwalbe Evo Snakeskins shipped direct from Germany as it worked out cheaper than buying from the UK.

Decent Tyres seem to cost an arm and a leg lately. I quite liked the look of the shwalbe knobbly nics until I seen the 50quid price tag on them . Have got an ardent 2.4 and a minion dhf 2.3 on my full sus. And in all fairness, unless its really bone dry they are the nicest I've ever ridden. Some might say its odd as the minions is designed for the front but on the rear, its predictable and holds well round all of what I've ridden it on .

I have a racing ralph on the rear there and a nobby nic on the front. Both Evo compound with the snakeskin sidewalls in 2.25 inch.

I wasnt getting as much traction as i wanted from the ralph and it clogs easily with mud so put the nic on the back and a Fat Albert on the front.

The fat albert is just from the cheaper performance range and seems to lose speed quickly, it is 2.35 inch, but think its also due to it being a softer compound. I might get an Evo compound one, see if they come on sale or not. Worked about 30 quid a tyre from Germany.

I know AGW is vertically challenged, but what about the rest of you!

These bikes look tiny, and you have hardly any post out of the frame too! (Ignoring the jump/trials).

I'm 5'10 and have a 16" frame which is perfect for me and my seat as standard is too low. I added a quick release for when I need to get my arse over the back wheel when going down some steep stuff when out in Guisborough hills and stop me going over the bars.
