Happens quite a lot when there is a swarm ( herd, pack ... cluster !!) of baby spiders. I've not seen a massive one like that myself but I've seen pictures of large trees covered in the web.

Now you've got to wonder where all those spiders have gone, in your house perhaps ?

I would be pouring petrol on that and setting it on fire asap. I hate spiders almost as much as I hate cats.

Should try and take a few high res pics and send it to a wildlife magazine tho might earn yourself a couple squid never seen it before

Looks like really bad infestation of red spider mite, they attack plants and hence why the plant is dying under the web. I could be wrong but that is what it looks like. If it is very dry where you are this year it could well be right?

That just made me shiver like mad!

I had a huge bath spider in my bath last night. Got the shower on him and he eventually gave up in the plug hole - then had to poke him down thru' the hole with a bottle!

Who cares about flies though? We don't have flies in our house so I see no need to house spiders! They just sneak up on you. You'll be minding your own business and they will run out in front of you or crawl onto your clothes. My dad just picks them up and I never realised I was arachnaphobic until I had to get rid of one myself.

I'm shuddering just thinking about it. :nonono:

Edited for accuracy.

You wouldn't get me anywhere near a tarantula (a rational fear), but a British house spider? Really?

+1

I let them be as long as they don't take the p!ss web and looming wise in the summer. Warm weather, especially at night, = open windows. Open windows = moths + midges and other annoyingly noisey or biting insects.

I'm with ya. There's an enormous one above the fridge in the kitchen at the moment. His name's Fred.

Don't come near mine for a while then, we've got a big nest above our front door. It's got bad enough that everyone but me has stopped going in and out of the front door, and we've put the black recycling box out at the end of the drive, wrapped in binbags, with a note on it saying 'Post, please! (Away from the wasps!)'.

My phobia is Moths, because a few years back I woke up with a big motherfucker caught in my eyelashes somehow, batting my eyelid up and down as it frantically tried to get free.

Oh, and Scorpions. But that's not irrational, tbh. Scary deadly pointy weird f*ckers.

:(

Scratch that. I just accidentally killed Fred, he had apparently come down from above the fridge.

He didn't squash underfoot very much - it felt like treading on a small pebble, that's how big he was.
