Neighbours tree. Again...now it's a rave!!

Post by vinny19791 »

Ok

It's been windy here the last 3-4 days and there's loads of pigeons about :|

This tinky winky tree isn't mine, but overhangs our path and driveway. It drops branches onto my cars, the birds take as many shits on my cars as they can and my neighbours are a bunch of rhubarb great guys, I love em who are not approachable about this.

Now I'm at the end of my tether, I've had to resort to parking the zr on the road as its getting damaged by the tree and bird logger.

I want to get a 20ft ladder and take all the branches out that hang over my side and also cut their conifers back to their border.

I'm also considering a 6ft fence along the path.

Thoughts?

Do it bud and throw them back over their side. Your well within your rights to cut down those bits that are over hanging onto your property.

It's a high tree though.

I'm thinking of getting my brothers transit and using the roof as a base to begin my assault.

What I see is two main branches, I take these out and half the tree is down and out of my face.

Each branch is roughly 8" through, but quite big.

The way i see it as long as my drive is clear and I'm well in the tree all will be well.

Bonus points if they are watching me as I cut it down.

Thing is if it was them and their cars they'd soon be complaining

if the tree is not protected you are legally entitled to cut back and leave cuttings on their property.

I think if the tree is protected you can still get permission from the council to trim it, but it probably takes forever while they decide.

I think they 'the council' will send someone around to asses what needs to be done and that will be it. Any action taken not approved can cause quite heavy fines so best be aware.

Get sacks of salt and disolve in hot water and water at base for about 6 months every night it will dry the tree out and will become unsafe and will have to be removed then ;)

As previously stated cut down th offeding branches make sure not to go over the boudrey then insert brass nails (think its brass) the tree will not be able to grow over your garden again then with the cutting go place them on your neighbours front lawn then knock the door a inform them that you have cut their tree down nd you have let the cuttings on their lawn as you don't want to b done for theft!! Then wlk away knowing your cars are safe........... But if its sycamore your trollied

You can check usually online whether it has a tree preservation order on it.

If it does then you need to get a tree surgeon to come in and assess what needs doing and then they write to the council to get permission to do the necessary work. If it isn't dangeours or hampering the enjoyment of your property then you'll not get permission though.

Most trees don't have preservation orders but it is very area dependant so take a look on your council website.

I just had our tree lopped and now the fecking pidgeons have a nice spot to sit in to crap on my car!

I live near a Royal Park where there are lots of blocks of flats that used to have their views of the park obscured by trees. The trees mysteriously died off and the park wardens say it was probably due to the tap root of the trees being doused in engine oil. Apparently it doesn't take much.
I'm sure you wouldn't do such a thing in case the dead tree eventually fell on your car.

Poisoning a tree takes time, effort, and if you get caught could land you a hefty fine.

If it doesn't have a preservation order on it, just get the overhanging stuff cut down or trimmed. It isn't that expensive to get someone in to do the job too.

I think it was £150 to get our tree lopped as well as all the ones in the back garden cut back and all the rubbish disposed of (Important as our trees are poisonous and I have a 2 year old). I'd guess that was about 2 or 3 times the work needed to prune yours)

If someone else qualified does the work and cuts too much off then you won't get the blame ;)

Dig the ground up slightly and knock some copper nails into the bottom of the tree..

Punch them right in a good inch or 2..

Wont be long until it dies and has to be taken down :P

Or seen as its under the hedge:

purchase an auger type bit used for bulb's,drill around tree 10-12 feet from

trunk 10-12 inches deep, pour half full with rock salt, fill with water

and that will do the trick.

Agreed.

Seems people overreact when trees are involved.

Just get a ladder and trim back anything that overhangs enough to cause damage. I wouldn't go back to the fence line myself, just to where you need it to be to stop branches and sapp etc falling off.

And about the hedge.... dont trim it back too far. My parents neighbours did this to our hedge. It never goes green again. They thought they'd make a point and take it right back to exactly the fence line... and as a result have had a brown hedge their side for about 15 years. Our side is lovely and green though.
Yes, you could put a fence up.... but a hedge does it for free, so why bother?
