These old rovers ain't bad are they

Post by vinny19791 »

Heading from KFC this evening, a chap with his mrs in a new golf tdi comes tearing up behind me, (he was also stuffing his face earlier  ) decides to blat by me in a 40. I carried on at my leisurely 39mph. I normally just tootle about these days, getting old :D

Followed him for a few miles, him tailgating people.

Anyway got to a tiny stretch of dual carriageway, I went into the overtaking lane , and he nails it.

Me in my 20 year old rover nailed it.

Pulled along side him, laughed and pulled a face Then accelerated away and waved

I love, love, love beating people in their expensive modern cars that tey think are amazeballs.

As well as youngsters, most mornings I meet a few people like that.

That's why I can't have modern cars as a toy.

It's that unknown the rover brings.

Interestingly I had a go at my friends scooby wrx with full big bore exhaust decat and airfilter, he says it should be running close to 240, I beat him in a straight drag race running 8 psi unmodulated as I want the milage to get to 1500 before I up the boost on my new engine, we were both very suprised, I do have a large bore exhaust from the turbo back and decat but still its pretty impresive an old design of engine is still smashing scoobys, I love my rovers :D

One more thing to add, if uv just beat a bmw or audi and he pulls up behind you at the next set of lights get out and polish the rover badge on the boot with your sleeve then jump back in, that gets a funny reaction every time, a sort of cross between anger and embaressment

the wrx will have miles more transmission loss due to all the diffs and shafts plus a lot of extra weight. still pretty impressive though

Great logic Einstein. I bet you sh1t all over milk floats and bicycles too. If I wanted a fast car I'd have kept the GTO which would have sh1t all over your Rover - but I don't have a reptilian complex so I don't need to street race to show how macho I am.

There are more important things in life than speed.

Just think the majority are tree hugging hippies, plus it may well be cheap to run and easy to park but how would it hold up in a crash when your knees are the crumple zones, personally I put more value on my life than saving a few quid on tax and fuel!

Your profile doesn't say but I think you drive a BMW 3 series so fair enough they are 5 star euro ncap rated but as we are on a Rover forum lets compare the Smart ForTwo with the Rover 600.

I feel better now - for a moment there I thought the Rover 600 was unsafe but you laid my worries to rest.

That must be the special edition right-angle A-pillar model in the picture!

Hold on Radders, the 600 may have only got 2 stars compared to the fourtwo's 4 stars, but NCAP states that the test results are only comparable between cars within 150kg of each other. The 600 is 1280kg and the smart is 750kg.

You ought to compare the smart with the Rover 100...
