Hobbies - Collections

Post by volf »

Simple really - What do you collect? :) I wont laugh if you say you collect stamps *Snigger* I view it as "Each to their own"

So,

1. What do you collect?
2. Why did you start?
3. How big is your collection?
4. Any photos?

My answers :)

1. I collect, Inflatable animal toys. Mainly the kind you can ride on, Such as Whales, Sharks etc.

2. I dont really know to be honest! I started back when I was 13 I think, For my birthday, I was given a Crocodile which lasted 3 years as I never took it to a pool (couldnt go half the time) Which brust sadly, after that, I got another one... and then a whale and I just kept buying more! After that, I thought I'd make a collection out of it.

You'l be surpirzed to know that there are other people out there who too collect inflatable toys as I do, Many of which have spent alot of money getting some items! But I wont go that far!

3. Ive never really given it much thought to how many I have. I think its within the area of about 18+

4. I think I would have to get them all out in one day for one big photo... But I dont think thats going to happen for a long time! No space!

1: I collect all sorts of things, my latest one is dust.
2: Because I can't be bothered dusting.
3: I've got a houseful.
4: I'd be too embarassed to show you...

I do have a few printed milk bottles.
I have a few cameras.
I have quite a lot of Lego.

1 - Aside from random bits of Rover (and dust, obviously!), I collect foxes. Well, not real ones, but anything remotely vulpine-based, pictures, paintings, books, ornaments, etc. I also have a smaller wolf collection for those moments when I run out of foxes to buy.

2 - I started when I was two, apparently, when my brother bought me a big Basil Brush toy. It's kind of gone downhill from there!

3 - Very big. If it has a fox on it, I probably have it, from a 10p ornament to an original painting by a famous wildlife illustrator worth about five times as much as my car, which was found at a car boot sale for £45.

4 - Nope!

I collect books.

Don't know why or when it started - it just happened ;)

Approximately 1600 at the moment - some good first editions as well :D

Who wants to look a photograph of books ;)

Rob has seen some of them, makes the living room look pretty boring actually.

Not unexpected, Paul! :) Do you have a favourite fiction author and non-fiction author?

Mine are - Frederick Forsyth and Dale Carnegie.

I have a relatively small collection as I tend to give away most of the ones that I've read.

Not quite sure what you mean Victor :)
victor3 wrote:Do you have a favourite fiction author and non-fiction author?
John Mortimer, of course ;) , Chaucer (in his original text) and Colin Dexter. Nobody specific in terms of non fiction though - my interests are too wide I think.

I would imagine that he was not surprised as you come across as a very articulate, well read chap, such chaps often have many books. Although he could have been calling you a boring bastad (doubt it though) :)

Of course there is one huge bonus about having a bookshelf that takes up so much space, it saves redecorating :lmfao:

It's her collection really, I just tend to encourage the matter when I see one we haven't got in the local shop.

1: beer bottles, all empty. Bottle caps, all bent off in the process of opening. (That one's only half sarcastic, I've actually started taking bottle caps off really carefully, but only off the ales. Guitars. I love guitars. Seems to be going towards a car collection atm, but only till my 214 is sold (HINT HINT CHECK THE CARS FOR SALE AREA). I'm also thinking about starting up a collection of 1:12 or similar size die casts of all the cars I've owned. Specific models, just as a memento. Also, pieces of car. I've got the 'Peugeot' badge off of the side of my 205 sewn onto a t-shirt that I'm particularly fond of, and I'm thinking of getting a Rover badge like the ones I made into a keyring, to make one of them into a pin, just soldering a spring pin on the back of it...

2:The only one with a reason behind it is the die cast cars idea, though that's not started yet, I've got to have spare cash to do it with...

3: hundreds, thousands, four, two and none, in that respective order.

4: I've a few photos of the cars, maybe some photos of the guitars individually somewhere on here, but they'll most of them be poor quality of me on various stages around local pubs/ village halls etc etc. I don't think I'll bother taking photos of the beer bottles/caps...
