Should i buy this 200 Vi ?

Post by j220 gti »

can get a 98 200 vi for cheepish, its a mot failiure both sills need replaceing, front brake discs are buckled , petrol tank leaks at the seam. few scratches, rear arches need attention, but all in all not too bad. only has the cloth interior, sunroof and boot leaks.

Thinking turbo conversion ? hmmmm

tho, if i was honest... if i could have any rover again that ive had before it would be this....

For the amount of faults it has to be free or no more than about £50 tbh.

Take the engine out (if any good) and weigh it in.

And before someone starts the whole 'fix it', 'crush it' debate again - this is different to a car that you already own and want to look after.. If you're taking on something that's effectively unroadworthy, you want it to make financial sense really..

It does sound like a shed. No point putting all that effort into what must be one of the worse condition examples. Better off welding up an older, rarer car ;)

I'd say it was probably worth £100 as scrap value.

Cynical perhaps, but if it's a good car why didn't he spend a couple of hundred getting it welded up and retested?

i know the person personally have done for 4 years now. he doesent see the point in spending several hundred in welding when he has 3 other vehicles he can use, then the price for the breaks tank etc, where as i do my own welding, kinda get uset to that owning cavaliers

Forgive me if im wrong, but to turbo a bubble dont you use the front end off a coupe ? so there for i wouldent need to spend getting new vi discs? do you just change the whole subframe and struts etc from a coupe?

in 2 minds at the min, other then the slightly scabby flaky rear arches and the sills there is no more rust visible. set of 5 vi alloys etc, not like they would stay tho.
