1998 MGF VVC For Sale

Post by bgunn »

Yes, the time has come to put the MGF up for sale. I know there was a V6 conversion in the offing, but various circumstances mean this isn't going to happen, and I need a car with a bit more room so here goes:

Image

As you can see, the car has Trophy 160 Tecnomagnesio wheels which were recently refurbed professionally and are in mint condition, these are shod with Toyo T1R tyres which have barely any wear. It has the 305mm AP 4 pot front brakes, and fresh pads in the rear. I'll start on the mechanical upgrades as follows:

TF Quicker ratio steering rack
TF Steering column (EPAS unit) and ECU which gives more 'feel' than the MGF one, also has tilt function
12mm lower on the hydragas running higher line pressure for stiffer springing
TF dash/subframe/engine bay bracing which helps stiffen the car by 20% torsionally
Solid subframe mountings from the TF
Front lower arm inner bushes in 'Trophy' position for quicker steering response
TF160 airbox (dual feeds, one from the nearside air vent)
MEMS3 plug top coils - removes the weak long plug leads from the MEMS2 cars - instantly cured the common damp starting issue.

Then there's other upgrades:

MGF 75LE seats with *new* leather covers, which are absolutely immaculate
Matching door cards
The usual steering wheel, gearknob, handbrake lever upgrades
Trophy 160 headlights (were sourced brand new, have a much better looking black surround) and clear front indicators/repeaters

The hood is in very, very good condition and I fitted a new rear screen on the car shortly after I bought it early last year, which is still in perfect condition.

Image
The steering wheel has now been replaced with a 75LE red/black one,

In terms of condition, the car has done just over 66k, and has clearly been cherished throughout its life, as it is in generally very very good condition, and I've continued to ensure the car is well looked after. There are a few small pin dents and scratches, but the car does generally scrub up extremely well.

Also, the car would come with a large mountain of spares too long to list here! Also a number of service tools such as a hydragas pump amongst other things - although this could be sold separately.

So all in all, a well sorted soft top car which is a lot of fun to drive and is economical too. Taxed for 12 months, approx 9 months MOT left on the car also. 2 Keys and fobs included as well as the EKA.

£1500 or a sensible offer - car is located in Wembley, NW London.

Can't believe you're selling up all of a sudden :o

Good luck with the sale anyways, certainly a very competitive price you're putting it up for!

A stunner - and a bargain, at that price.

Good luck with the sale.

Alfa 156 probably - I fancy something a bit different (and with an equally bad rep for reliability although often unfounded)..

they sound great- pistonheads have one up as shed of the week. Seems like a serious amount of car for the money.

Definitely - they look stunning too. A lot of choice on engines too, the big chunky 2.4 JTD five pot, the lovely V6 and the 2.0 T spark isn't bad either. I'm sort of tempted to get a selespeed for the novelty value too - they're not as bad as people make out, they just need regular maintenance..

Now, someone buy my car!

Brian - best stick it on pistonheads or autotrader if you are keen to sell it fast!

Re. Alfa 156 is a great car and I am sure you will like the choice of engines they can have :)

Headgasket around 11k ago (not by me) and seems to be fine so far
Cambelts at the same time, water pump not, but I checked it when I changed the tensioner (which had slight play and noise) and it's fine and leak free.

It doesn't use oil, doesn't overheat or generally cause any of the usual MGF/TF related issues. It's got the correct OAT coolant mix also.
