wheeler dealers revisited

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

wheeler dealers revisited

Post by PJW »

Im always keen to watch Wheeler Dealers as theres very occasionally one that ive missed, such as the Jensen Interceptor one the other day i was suprised to see. However every single time i watch one, i get more and more annoyed about Mike Brewer being a total tube.

Anyway ive just been watching the one about the 911 Targa they did a year or so ago, and they show you a bit of the original program and then see how rotten the car is now.

There was a section where Mike talked to a guy who owned a pristine 911, and he asked him "What is it you should avoid when buying a 911 then?"

Do you know what the guy said? In all seriousness?

"Category A writeoff. without a doubt".

FFS. This is supposed to be a serious mechanics program! Im sticking with Chop Cut Rebuild, its much more in detail.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that he complained about "f*cking tyre kickers & plebs that don't know what they're talking about" when he was trying to sell a classic motor that he and ed b*llocks had made a mess of. However he wasn't aware that the camera was still rolling and that the guy he was trying to sell the wreck to was the president of the owner's club. He was trying to flog it for a price above and beyond what the asking price was for a factory concourse would fetch and the guy told him it was worth 2 grand less.

I can't find the link now though

Haha thats awesome. Dont get me wrong i imagine if they were doing a Rover it would attract someone who would be after one in very good condition because you can guarantee they do more to them than whats shown on the show.

They at the very least valet and mop every one, which isnt shown in prices or consumables. They dont do any favours though, i saw one last week with a Sierra Cosworth on it, and once it was tested and complete they ragged the arse off it on a track to see who could get it to 60mph the fastest.

The Impreza is a mess when theyre finished too.. and they buy it from a dealer in the first place!

I liked the show more when they only had a grand and could only pikeybosh cars like the rest of us, instead of (again in the Sierra one) they sent off the gearbox for a refurb, head for a refurb, bumper for a respray etc. Cost about a grand for something he just couldnt be arsed doing - it would have made it a lot more interesting if they had showed you them doing it.

I wished they'd do the intro to the new series like this:-

Brewer: Welcome, to wheelers dealers. The show that gives classic cars a second lease of life.
I buy the cars off ebay

China: And I spray them satin black

Lol the Sierra cosse one makes me laugh. Gives it an engine rebuild then at the end when they've finished he drives past the camera followed by a cloud of blue smoke.

I also love how Ed China's labour costs are not factored into their 'budget'

The guy was a used car salesman. Nuff said IMO.

I caught a TV trailer the other day showing him gimping about around Camp Bastion, apparently doing a series about millitary vehicles. I hope they leave him there.

For a laugh compare any of Mike Brewers early outings on tv, with the Cockney wideboy act of today

I've always thought that they should at least give a rough idea of how many hours he spends on a task.

30-40% longer than a decent mechanic would spend on it!

Also depends on getting the right camera angles and not screwing up the lines.

Staying on topic, I've watched 3 of these now and it always seems to boil down to Ed just slating the new owners of the car!

I can sort of see their point having 'bought it back from the brink' but jeez man, lay off them, its their car now not yours!!!
