+1 and no mistake.

FaceBook is the new temazepam. I absolutely can't abide it now. To de-activate your account, god it's like packing in scientology or summit. What's that other waste of electricity, Bebo is it? What a tragedy honestly.
I should've quit you a long long time ago. then I wouldn't be here with all my trouble, down on this killing floor

I think there'd genuinely be a worldwide outcry of biblical proportions
Whatever was wrong with the good old telephone if you wanted to catch up?

I'm getting the soapbox out now. Why when people say-

"Yeah but facefu*k let's you share your photos with friends".

I say "So does email".

They say "Yeah but you can keep in touch with friends abroad".

I say "Isn't that what we were doing with email?".

They say "Yeah but facesh*t is instant".

I say "Isn't MSN?".

And why OH WHY, do people only insist on posting stupid retarded photos of their Saturday nights out?? "Yeeeeah, here's yet another photo of me with both thumbs in the air pulling a stupid face 2 sheets to the wind". Ooooooh, your sooo cool. Wish I was you

In all seriousness facebook is just like using the lounge here on RT. You post up a question or an observation and others reply with their experiences or views.

I use facebook to keep in touch with all the people I can't be bothered to actually keep in touch with. It's good like that!

It intrigues me as to how many of people's friends on their friends list are actual friends and not just people they've had the bitter misfortune of meeting at some point in their miserable life and are just too polite to tell them to feck off.

Some people go OTT with facebook but i have no problem with it personally. If you dont want the world knowing your business, privacy settings ftw. Alot of people use it purely for attention seeking, for example just posting something like "aaargh ive had enough!!1!1" awaiting all the fake-sympathetic replies from non-friends, but as said above as a hub for keeping contacts together etc its very handy.

Exactly, its free and combines lots of separate things people have listed above, i.e. photos, private messaging, chat windows etc all in one place, though admittedly a lot of the features are inevitably inferior to separate things i.e. MSN messenger, email, photobucket.

I used to think the same.

My wife and daughter have been on it for years, eventually they persuaded me to sign up.

I did the usual, look for old school friends etc.

I'm actually glad i did sign up.

After finding a few old school mates, and found one in particular. Sent this friend a message, but never got a reply.

I then messaged another old mate, who was/is mates with the same friend i was trying to get in touch with.

It was only then, i found out our mutual friend died earlier this year. To be fair, i was gutted.
In that respect, i wish i had joined FB sooner, so i could have met up with my old mate, before he sadly passed away.

I have since contacted his widow, and have arranged to go over to wales with a big group of us, to scatter his ashes over one of his favorite places he used to love to hike.

So in conclusion, don't completely ignore facebook.

It is not all about sad losers, telling the world that they have just woken up, there is some usefulness to it.

Cheers
Dave

I have not got the front number plate displayed on my car.

I was using another car and backed off the driveway a few days ago and clocked that the front plate was missing. At first I thought it was due to a 'problem' with a neighbour last week but the plate was sat on the floor in front of the car. My car hadn't been hit or anything and the fact that the original dealership plate was missing was a bit odd as it had stayed attached for 17 years.

Fair plays to the Police for being so pro-active IMO. It still isn't attached but I haven't driven it for almost a fortnight now.

I will get some pictures shortly.

I'm really not sure why people have such a thing against facebook :?

It's for networking.. for sharing information that you want to share, for contacting people, for discussing things.

If you disagree with those principles and dont think that it's actually better than emailing or phoning people, the question has to be asked... why the hell are you on here? Surely the yahoo mailing lists which are email based, and maybe the good old telephone is better.

Hell, on here you're all talking to often people you've never even met... and you're slagging off facebook because people use it as a tool to keep in contact with those who they have met and know?

Sure, we could all use email or telephones however FB allows somebody to put something out there and people to converse if they want. Emails and phonecalls are directed largely at a single person. I'd get properly annoyed if all my mates called me up every 10 minutes. However, looking on FB and responding to things that I want to is non intrusive.

However.. I suspect that you really do see the benefits of it and the arguments above are said for the sake of a discussion as the benefits are clear.
