Update 040C

Update 040C is now available.

To update please connect your PC to the Internet and run pscanloader.exe and allow it to update itself.
It is not necessary to connect the interface or to be connected to the car for the update to happen.

040C brings partial 5AS functionality.

It allows you to read the EKA which means that you can still start the car if your immobiliser fob battery goes flat.

It allows you to read and write the EMS. The EMS is the code which the 5AS sends to the engine ECU. If the 5AS sends the correct EMS code the the engine ECU then the engine will run. If it is wrong the engine will start and run for one second then die.

It allows you to code in new immobiliser fobs. This process will delete all existing fobs so do not attempt this process unless you have all of the fobs present and working which you want to use.

If nothing else we would recommend that all owners read their EKA and EMS, write them down and keep them safe somewhere. They will be invaluable if your 5AS or fob fails in the future.

Quick question - I have a Pektron system on my 2003 car - can the diag unit still read the EKA etc (I know programming the Pektron is barcode based and different) - or do you need another update for Pektron compatibility?

The Pektron ECU is totally different to the 5AS and so I doubt whether the 5AS software will work at all. I would love to add Pektron capabilities but it will be a significant amount of development work.

I can imagine that Pektron capabilities are significant amount of work, but this is valuable add on to have. I am really considering buying it, and I would love to have all in one place. Will you reconsider on this topic?

One more question - do your application work on Win 8.1 which can be found on tablets?

My intention is to cover every Rover and MG ECU possible. The thing is that we don't have a Pektron ECU and have never tried to hook one up. Without knowing anything about them I'm not going to promise to do it. I don't make promises unless we are 100% sure that we can deliver on it; it's a matter of integrity.

All I can promise at this time is to try.

Have programmed new key fob and original fob today
Easy to do just follow the instructions on screen very simple.

I've got it running on my laptop on Windows 10 and before that was 8.1... Works a treat on both!

It won't work on Windows Phone 8.1 as that's not really regular Windows, the name is just confusing.

It will however work on the Atom powered Windows 8.1 tablets as those have the real full Windows. You'll just need an OTG cable to connect the USB and you're done.

I understand that Windows Mobile 10 is far more like Windows proper.

Also the pscan scanner isn't bluetooth.

My understanding is that Windows RT, Windows 8 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile are all targeted at the ARM processor rather than Intel.

As pscan.eu is compiled for Win32 API on an Intel processor I can't see it working on any "Mobile" variant I'm afraid.

I also think that the screen on a mobile phone really is too small for the program.

The program does work on the cheap Atom based tablets, and it will also work on laptops which are so old that they would otherwise be junk (such as my EEE PC 701, which is also easily charged off of 12V). If you can get a old laptop from somewhere my recommendation is to install Linux with LXDE desktop as it seems to be the lightest weight "full" desktop manager.

Debian 8 installer now includes LXDE as one of the choices that you can select during install, or you can go for Lubuntu.
