This makes me soo angry!!!!
Typical britan strikes agian.
Now Santa clause is baned from most of the major shoping centres because.... It may cause ofence to non christians! Also Christmas lights are not alowed to be called that.. they are now festive lights which have to be kept up until around march in some areas so that it covers other muslim, jewsish etc festival seasons aswell!
What the f**king hell is this goverment playing at???
Can you imagen the response from other countrys if you had us going to a muslims and demanding they put up christmas decorations and santa clauses!.. i think it would be something along the lines of...F**K OFF BACK HOME! But oooooo no this goverment is so soft that we have to do anything to keep people of another race happy. They must think we will be seen as a racist country otherwise.
I bet 90% of people from a different religion couldnt give a sh*t wether santa was there or not but we get some fooking moron behind a desk deciding that it MAY cause ofence!
This makes me SO F**KING ANGRY!!
What on earth is going to be next hey? baning music with english lyrics?.. it may be seen as racist if it doesnt acomadate for other cultures?
This is the begining of the end of the british culture as we know

yep been in the papers that last few days. the goverment has had words with the main people at the major shopping centres and agreed that it may cause offence if they have a santa. I have relations that live in leicter and that is one of the areas where the "festive lights" have to stay up until at least march IIRC.

Ive got a mixed opinion on this one...
On the one hand I'm proud to be British and like to do traditional things..
On the other hand human beings are a species that live on a planet.. just because we happen to live here doesnt mean we really own this country so why shouldnt we be accomodating?

Is this really true?
I will hold back my bile until there's a link to something on the Guardian or the Times with the story.
Meanwhile, something I know to be true is that while listening to a radio phone in show here in Ireland I heard something which reminded me of good old catholic Ireland in the bad old days. You may not know that it was actually illegal to buy condoms in Ireland unless you were married up until as recently as about 1990! Even if you were married, the church's official stance was that every sperm was sacred, so you shouldn't be using them anyway.
But I digress. That's just as an illustration to show you (and remind Irish viewers) what a quantum change has occurred in Irish society in only a little over a decade. It really is incredible because the difference in our society now is as great as between now and Victorian times.
Well no, it has taken me another paragraph to get to the point. I assumed all these chronically dumb moral guardians had simply vanished (not that I disagree with having morals, but as someone once said - never let your sense of morals prevent you from doing the right thing). I was wrong to think that they had gone away though - they are still here and spend their afternoons ringing in to inane afternoon phone shows on RTE Radio 1, the channel for fogeys (soon I will be in their demographic).
Another paragraph, and I still haven't got the story out! Well, you may have heard of a film called Bad Santa. It was released last Christmas in the US but due to whatever politics in the film industry, is only getting a release here now. The film has received a 15PG rating here in Ireland, and the biddies were actually calling in to complain that they took their children to see the film and were horrified to discover that it wasn't suitable viewing for their inbred little spawn.
They just couldn't accept that they had any responsibility in deciding for themselves whether it might be suitable or not. Instead, they claimed ignorance that the title or the high rating gave them any clue that it may not be suitable. They bemoaned the lack of moral fibre in society today. They blamed all of society's ills like teenage pregancy and muggings in the street to children being exposed to this kind of filth. Oh where oh where is our Mary Whitehouse, they cried.
These people should not be allowed to reproduce.

All this political correctness and racial equality isn't half getting my back up. People should be free to express what they want. 'Oh, you carnt say that, that may offend this minority' AND your point is!
I cannot put into words what i feel, but will say one thing I will go with what i think is right to say and do, not by what these silly beaurocratics think should be said.
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH

I would like to say all that too Gary and I want to take my time about writing what I feel about it. I want to wait until this story is confirmed though, and that it's not either completely untrue or just skewed before writing a diatribe.
I will say though, without having to know whether this particular story is true or not, that political correctness and I are sworn enemies. I hate it because it prevents people from having rational discussions and it is only out of rational discussions that understanding can arise. It is understanding and tolerance that PC people claim to want, but I feel sure that they only want to be seen to have "the right opinions" and don't actually own their own thoughts. I believe that political correctness is the scourge of modern society.
A quote which I am rather fond of (I cannot find the source though) defines political correctness as being the elevation of politeness over common sense.

Well that's just silly.
I'm not religious at all and I dont get offended by Father Christmas (note: not Santa, I'm not a yank!).
I think it would be a little different if they had some guy dressed up at Jesus with a happy birthday badge on, but Father Xmas isn't offending anyone. The only things I get offended at is when you get these preachers who invade your space when walking down the road

Thing is if anyone actually spoke to the "minorities" they couldn't give a to55 about Santa's grotto.

No one is offended. So get a life you sad government jobsworths!!!

It is an open ended discussion this one innit!!!
There are ups and downs to it all I guess, we're a modern race, living in modern times, in a modern world thats always changing. I guess there is a point that we shouldnt live in the past and we should accomodate for other races as we should promote equality.
However,
This is not one of the ways we should be doing that. Sure, help others who are worse off and try to put an end to racism, but to sacrifice our own traditions and culture is not something we should do. We should simply embrace others traditions when it is their turn for celebration, not wipe ours out, cos what other race really cares?
If we just embraced others traditions when its their turn, everyone would be happy, take st gearoges day and st patricks day, I dont know about you, but I celebrate them both! New year and chinese new year, we know about it and so we respect their traditions and maybe even take part and celebrate along with them. Its all about respect.
Its give and take, we'll respect your beliefs and traditions and if you want to get along, you'll have to respect ours.
I see the British culture becoming somewhat non existant!!! This government is a right push over! But then arent they all?

Father Christmas gets my vote of confidence over most politicians
, but the time of children sitting on his knee are gone due to possible paedophiles, bad publicity and legal action against the employers.
The Dept of Culture, Media and Sport provide a stunning duplication of services already available within the private sector, the sole difference being that it would seem the culture aspect they safeguard is minority culture and not the traditions of Britain

we are rapidly going towards banning the national anthem because it is to nationalastic and might offend other nationalities in this country. We are subjugating our own identity to promote the identity of others.I really hope that there will come a time when we will stand up and fight for being british and everything that entails.

I'm sorry, but I'm not having some dipsh**e telling me that my kids can't go and see Santa down the local shopping centre
Hell if you ban that you might as well ban Christmas as well! After all what'd be the point?
The sooner blair and the rest of his brainless cronies sod off the better! If it offends other religions tough, they've come here, they should accept our customs if they don't like it, they should SOD OFF!
Sorry if this may offend some, but if we went into someone else's country and created, would they ban religous festivals? I so think not
