Well yeah, I do know how good it sounds alright! My 214SLi has a lovely rasp to it. It sounds great to my ears. Most cars these days you can't hear anything from the engine because people like cars to be boring and functional and not even have to think about what's under the bonnet.
I'm just surprised it rates so well compared to all those other cars.
I wonder is mine audible to other people on the road in their cars and wonder why a "sedate" Rover is making such a racket!
I'm looking to get a turbo coupe soon. I've that read the engine is very unobtrusive, especially at lower revs. I hope it's not too quiet though. I hope it's got more of a deep baritone song, compared to the K-series' more tenor-like note!

I love the sound of a V8 or a V6 or a boxer engine (beetle/alfa33/scubby), so from the list V8 as I do not recall hearing a KV6.
Incidently the question was about engine and not exhuast sound.

Engine bungled by Zippy, you know, George's Rainbow Smart Mate.

the k-series mpi engines sound really nice, but it depends what your into! The induction roar through a decent induction kit starts low down as a slow burble, then exhaust comes into play at 3-3500 revs as the induction gets a bit beefier, then comes the v-tec style kick at 4000 revs and it just roars as the mems says GO - makes you really want to just paste your foot down and hold it there as when it gets over 6,000 its awesome!
Roverless

best sound
Yeah , the v8 sounds the doggies - but then again i've never heard a meaner sounding rover than leos - damn that blitz is horny !! saying that , anyone heard the new nissan 350 lately ??!? GODDAMN !!!

Has to be the V8, as much as I think its an old dinosaur, there is no better sound !, drove a 5ltr TVR Griff once, absolutely amazing sound, set off every car alarm.......
If you get a chance, have a look under the bonnet, the "power station" exhaust that joins up in-front of the engine looks awesome !

TVRs are the coolest and those blackpool rockets sound awesome!
V8 all the way
I would agree on that I had a 5 litre TVR griffith with exhausts the size of cannons, it sounded like thunder at tick over and a massive roar as it went past. Certainly got plenty of attention.

I suppose my choice will be simple as I have three of them, there aint no substitute for eight, its doesn't matter what they are breathing through or into they still sound glorious, I'm sure some of you will know Steve Green with his Rover V8 powered Mk1 Cortina, in the eights on the quarter I think isn't he, his V8 almost sounds like a bike engine it revs so freely and high, sure he uses 8k rpm, and then theres John Sleath's old Alfa with quadruple webbers, I've even got the sound of my Rover V8 starting as the ring tone on my phone!
I bet ALL the people who have voted for the V8 have been to the strip at least once.
IMHO there is only one noise any better and thats Roger Gorings Firestorm jet funny car, Martin Hill can do similar for those in the south.
I'm hoping that my latest project sounds pretty good with Rover V8 and a pair of turbos, think I'll
need more than a shoehorn to get the buggers in

Really does leave you speechless doesn't it, whats even better is that Roger is a really nice guy and very approachable, you do get to look at his car without him getting concerned. Every time I have seen him its made the cost of the event seem insignificant, it really is worth the entrance fee just to see him run once and he generally does two at least.
If anyone feels the urge to watch him then I'm sure he'll be at York on May 1st although there is no mention of him that I could find

Anyone seen the twin turbo Corvette Stingray on American Hotrod?, 1500bhp at 5.5psi of boost!, pity the owner seemed such a clown but Steve Pateman better be worried about the worlds fastest street car championship!

I had a 1990 MG Maestro 2.0i in British Racing Green which was subtely modified with a racing downpipe and 2" exhaust system. It was not loud but it sounded gorgeous.
