Rolling road set-up - where?

Post by RS RUDEBOY »

Hi, not sure wether or not you lot have had this discussion or not but i want to get my tomcat turbo set-up this week and was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good tuning place to go?

I dont mind travelling a bit if it's going to be worth my while. I live in Northants about 2 miles from santa pod so was going to go to P.T.S in Dunstable as i had my old escort turbo set-up there and they were quite good. I do have Jam sport and R.G.S within 20 miles of me but i cant say i've heard good things about them :(

Anyone recomend anywhere or where not to go?

Many thanks in advance

Jonny

I dont know to be honest but i've had it 19 months and the guy before me had it for 5 years and neother of us had it set up, there are no receipts in the S.H either so i thought i'd book it in to make sure all the fueling etc is all spot on and have a power run at the end to see what she's doing :)

car runs 11.7psi odd as standard.

unless youve really modded it, it doesnt need setting up, nor could you find anything to 'tweak' anyways.

better off spending your money on some more mods, or something.

If you just want a power plot I think there is a place in wisbechistan that does has a rolling road - on MEMS there is nothing to "tune" tho.

Well Rich at Powerstation certainly has some experiance with a Rover now.

But it took a while to impress him :)

The setup there has got to be one of the best in the UK.

RSRudeboy,

I live in Kettering and I go to StreetRacers just this side of Leicester. The owner's wife has a VERY modded 220 tubby.

I put my ti on their r/road and came out with 191BHP :(

Lol i expect nothing went wrong.

You dont see many/any T16t make the power they where supposed to from the factory when put on the rollers.

Thing that makes me laugh is everyone is so happy with there cars on the road but after they have found out its "only" 190bhp or what ever get really upset. Who give a flying bother it didnt make 200000bhp you where happy with before it went on the rollers so whats changed?

p.s. had a logger day
Cookie Racing stage 1 tune ;)

Very true though either way, mine was 189bhp the first time I had it on rollers just after getting it, still felt nice and fast to me on the road.

Sticking mine on the rollers on sat to see how much it's making now at 20psi, but like you say either way the car is still quick so I wont get too upset at a low fig lol, much more interested in how I get on at Crail the following weekend.

Cheers chris that would be great what with Northampton only being 15 miles up the road!!

When i bought mine i said to my mate this was plenty fast enough. He told me to give it time as id soon get used to it and want more and now i do :( Dont get me wrong it's running nice at the moment and is fairly quick but i'm a greedy f**ker and want more lolol

where will it ever end

ive taken various cars to a quite local engineering wizard with a rolling road and he always makes the car feel like i'm driving away in something vastly different and more powerful.

getting a car tuned imo is always worth the money.

On a MEMS engine the ignition timing and fuelling isn't adjustable. The cam timing certainly isn't adustable either. That doesn't leave much in the way of tuning that can be done. Perhaps except a blast of carb cleaner down the inlet?

Not saying this bloke is a conman, just that I can't see what he can possibly do besides basic maintainence (plugs, air filter etc) which in fairness you can do at home.

Ever taken a rover on standard managment though?

Assuming the standard fuel regulator is in place, there is literally nowt that can be "tuned".
