Road Tax - Other Charges

Post by lou123 »

I cant see it happening myself but i've signed i anyways.

Democracy in action?

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible.

They'll have to buy my tracker for me, as there's no way I'll be forking out £200 for something that won't have any benefit for me.

Yep, totally agree on that one, Plus I'll have to fork out for 2, and there is no way I can afford to do that.

You pay 185 for Road tax if i'm not mistaken - which allegedly gets abolished with the new scheme. Yeah right.

No they have already stated that will stay. This will be a tax for actually using the roads where as you road tax, or vehicle exise duty as it is called) is a tax for owning the car.

It'll never happen. They will just put up road tax, easier that way. And they are proposing these draconian measures so that when they DO increase road tax, nobody will mind as much, as it will seem they've backed down and been defeated. When in fact, they got exactly what they were aiming for - a large increase in road tax.

In any case, if they did ever bring this in there would be a revolution. Or at the very least mass civil disobedience and blockaded roads.

In the 60's, a science fiction writer called Robert A Heinlein wrote a short story entitled 'A Sunday Morning Drive' (later used by the band Rush for their track 'Red Barchetta'), about a young man whose grandfather dies and leaves him, in his will, a 'sports car' that he is only permitted to drive on Sunday mornings. The young man lives in a time (then far in the future), when the petrol engine is reviled as a polluter of the atmosphere and drivers breaking the hundreds of laws, particularly speeding, face life-sentences in prison. All cars are electric powered, desperately slow and dull to drive.
The young man's curiosity overcomes his fears and he goes to the barn where the car is stored - to find the last Ferrari 350TB (Tino Barchetta) in existence. It has been converted to run on ethanol and a crude distillery has been set up, with instructions on how to keep it running posted on the still. It takes about a week to fill the tank, hence the Sunday mornings...
The young man takes the car for a few secret drives and learns its huge performance, eventually engaging the police in battles of speed and wits on his 'Sunday morning drives'. He posts his adventures anonymously on a 'World Computer Network' and, one by one, he is joined by other owners of 'banned cars' who learn the secret of making their own fuel.
The story unfolds further (I am thinking of writing a novel based on it, but combined with 'Mad Sunday' which will cease to exist on the Isle of Man if the softies get their way), but I will go into no further detail, other than the main problem that the police have with these 'illegal cars' is that they are not fitted with 'remote identity tags' and, as such, are invisible to the satellites that track all other vehicle movements on the planet...

Remind you all of anything?

Scarier still is that the story was first published in 1967 - 40 years ago!

Agree with the above on all. They would have to provide mine too as there is no way that I would fork out £200 for something that I don't want and is only there to maqke the government money.

If I were to have to pay out then there is no way that I would pay £190 for car tax either.

The one thing that they did say is that tax on petrol would be scrapped. This would be designed to counter act the cost per mile.

This would screw alot or companies over who have a company car fleet or small business'. Last year I was doing on average 800 - 1000 miles per week in the company Golf. 95% of my journey was at peak time's on peak roads, M3, M27, A27, M23 & M25. I hate to think how much that bill per mile per moth would be!!

If on average it cost people £60 per week on this per mile scheme, that is £240 per month. All I can see happening is that about £200 of that would go to the new department taht would be made to pay for the computer system that cost £10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 and that didn't work and to pay for all the satellite systems and pay wages and postage to send out all the fines. So in essence (we know the government cant use calculators or do maths) they would probabaly be worse off and then would have to increase the cost from say 50p per mile to £5 per mile to cover their costs as the fcuked up their maths in the first place!!

All this travelling at peak time and the increased cost's, there is congestion because every one who works needs to be in the same place at the same time. Get's into the town of city for a 8.30 or 9.00am start and then leaves at 5 or 5.30pm. What this would do, to save people money and travelling at 'peak times' is staggered working time. Start at say 10.30am and finish at 7pm. This would cut out the peak times and save people money as they are not travelling then.

However, this would have a massive affect on the UK economy. Business would not be able to operate as normal as the people who do the jobs will all be starting at different times. Some people would not be able to afford to go to work, so would end up not working and being on benefits, costing the government more money, so they would put taxes up to pay for this. That then would cause more problems as more people then would not be able to afford to run a car, pay their bills or get to work so would stop, go on benefits, cost the government more and so on and so on....if you catch my drift??

Eventully all business in the UK would go bust, no one would have a job and the government would not be able to affford to pay out all the benefits as no tax money is bein g paid to them because no one is working.

In this mist of all this, the country would go bankrupt, their would be riots and probabalyt a civil war and the country would eventully implode!!

LOL ment to say plans but a plane sounds good!! :)

Will it have a Rover engine....ummm probabaly not. Not sure that it would produce enough power and would probabay die at 10,000 feet due to lack of air and I would crash and die...which I don't want to happen!!

This is the standard Labour scare story technique.

They leak a proposal to impose a scheme which is totally outrageous, utterly unaffordable and completely "unfair", which gets us and the media up in arms.

Then, when the official announcement is made and we are "only" being charged an extra £50 road tax and 5p/litre on fuel we are all supposed to say "phew, that's alright - it could have been worse" and we're all happy! The leaked scheme would never have been introduced as it would have lead to either a revolution or at least a change of government at the next election.

The trouble is, we seem to be daft enough to fall for it!

So true.

The labour spinners are quite good, and the general public quite thick, a bad combination!

WHen I think of the money that could have been spent on this country that has been wasted on the Iraq invasion it makes me sick.

Up here our roads are falling apart, the holes are so big peoples wheels get buckled.

Makes me resent road tax, when I know its probably paid for one of Tony's holidays.

The people in this country are too scared to stand up and say when somthing isn't right and do anything about it except write millions of useless petitions that ultimately do nothing. We all just bend over for the government. Now the French on the other hand all stand together and if they dont like somthing.......... Well, we all know what happens.

Why can't we be like that :?

Sorry, but i must agree with Kmartin here. The UK is over run by imigrants and asylum seekers. The fact that we are running out of houses because we are giving them away - therefore, house prices are going up etc

I suppose you cant blame the foriegners as if i was them, and i had a family and lived in a logger hole of a country and then a small country like the UK was saying "come to us, come over here. We will give you a house and a car and give you a monthly allowance - you will be safe here" i would probably go too.

The government is completely f***ed up here. We should follow examples like Australia and not let no-one in who has nothing to offer!!!

Not that this has anything to do with what this was originally about lol but its all down to how this country is run!

Ok, Lou, sources, please.

Are you guys seriously trying to tell me we did not have high taxation & housing problems in this country before the perceived 'immigration problem' began?

There can be no denying that the government have got some things wrong. However, to assert that our current level of taxation is 'to pay for immigrants' is senseless.

lol - i dont have none - lol

I think its just a perseption of what is going on. I was watching a bit of central news last night and they were showing imigrants jumping onto lorries to cross over to the UK for a free life. The people were even saying that the UK was there destination. I have relatives in BCC and who are social wokers etc and they have told me how they get council houses and how leniant the governement are towards them. Once they are in the UK it is very unlikely that they are sent back to where they come from - something to do there with human rights or whatever!

They get free medical treatment and everything here, why wouldnt they want to come to the UK?

How about this one then...

I have worked since i was 16 years old, ever since i had my national insurance number. I have paid in to the system, all my taxes and natioanl insurance etc. I was made redundant from my job of nearly 4 years and got told that i am un able to sign on and it would be unlikely i would get any support for my ot goings.

But people from other countries get to sign on straight away and get financial backing i.e - house and medical - and they havent paid ANYTHING lol
