1994 420 GSi Turbo for Sale

Post by TomcatDan »

Hey,

I'll keep this short and sweet. I've just moved into my own place again, and so I'm putting the GSi for sale. Basically I need the money more than I need a car at the moment so it needs to go. Obviously you all know (probably) what I paid for it, I'm open to any reasonable offers. Since I bought it, it's had a new Cat and some welding done to get it through it's MOT (MOT'd till June), a new battery as the old one packed up on me, and a new starter motor. I've not had a chance to sort out any of the cosmetics so whilst I'll take some new pictures at the weekend, it looks the same as it did in Leo's old for sale thread.

It's a 1994 L reg. has 130k on the clock now. It doesn't have any Tax as I've parked it over at my parents house (no parking at my new place) and cancelled the insurance (I need the cash). I'm not sure really what else to say here.

The bad points are (obviously) the cosmetics aren't perfect, there's a few dodgy bit's of paintwork where the lacquers peeling, and there's some rust on rear arches (surface rust only now though, the rear of sill that had rotted through was welded up for the MOT  ). It doesn't use any oil, though it does use a bit of water every few weeks (I think there's a split on one of the hoses somewhere).

As for the good points, 235bhp and 239lb/ft. It's got a T28 and a pulsar intercooler, Full Mongoose exhaust (cat fitted at the moment but I have the decat for it too). Blitz SUS Power as well.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away and as I say I'll post pics when I am next at my parents, this weekend at the latest. I'm looking for a quick sale so if you're interested make me an offer. I want to avoid resorting to Ebay if possible!

Well in an ideal world I'd like to get back what I paid for it, since I had to spend out quite a chunk just after a bought it. But I can't see that happening this close to Chrimbo and as I say, i could really do with the money so somewhere around the £1150 mark seems rightish to me. But obviously you guys let me know if I'm dreaming and I am open to offers. I'll see how it goes I guess

Cant keep them for more than 5 minutes! Just leave it where it is - its not costing you anything - and enjoy it again when you can afford to insure and run it :P Or, Im sure your dad will fix it up and use it

It is costing me though - insurance, plus it needs taxed. I can't leave it on my parents drive forever and don't have any parking at the new place either. I need to pay off a bunch of things (I did mention I've just moved into my own place right? ) so I need some cash. I'd like to be able to go out and live a little these days while I still can :sorry: Anyway, you're a fine one to talk, I can remember when every time I looked here you'd changed your car again :P

Haha, I can understand why, she's an awesome sleeper! If I was still living at my folks this wouldn't be happening, but I'm not so it is :p

Truth be told I still get nostalgic about my old Coupe too, even though it's slowly falling to bits through neglect since I sold it to Dad.

Sorry for the massively slow responses, I was checking my PM's but forgot to check the main part of the ad.

Vard, yes I'm afraid this does mean I won't be able to make the Gaydon meet, I'll update that thread too. Sorry mate.

:(

I really REALLY hope it goes to a good home. Sadly I can see this is where it gets bought and raped for its parts.

Shame you have to let it go after such a short time, Dan. Please - someone give it the home it deserves :)

Don't worry mate, it's NOT getting broken up for parts. It'll go as a whole car. Hopefully it won't take forever to do so, but don't worry I won't let it come to that :)

I know YOU won't break it, you don't have the heart and are too lazy!

What I meant was, I can see this is where it starts. The bodywork needs attention and it would take someone dedicated to spend the time and/or money on doing that. Being an old Rover (in the eyes of the masses) it just isn't worth it. So maybe it won't be the guy who buys it from you, but the one after him who just decides it's "Beyond economical repair" and strips it to a shell, makes a mint off the bits and crushes the rest.

Shame, as it's a perfectly (well, almost) sorted car mechanically. It goes REALLY well and handles fantastically. Simply a case of the (not so) good old car-cancer, rust. Once that's sorted and it's been treated to a lick of paint here and there, it'll be a minter.

Please - someone rescue my old baby!

The worst of the rust was sorted as well though for the MOT, it had a fair chunk of welding to the rear quarter so it is really only cosmetic stuff left, so I don't think anyone will be breaking it - I mean they've got to start appreciating soon anyway right? I mean there was only 250 (?) of them made, so there's probably only half that left...

OK, I'm trying to put off ebay for as long as possible, so I thought I'd have on last punt here (several ways to skin a cat as it were) - I'd consider swaps/part ex (value dependant obv  ) for something lighter on fuel and cheaper to insure if that helps sway anybody looking into moving into a turbo?

At this rate I won't need the money any more and might actually be able to justify keeping it

My mistake, I was going off rover200.orgs register - that's the penalty for using secondary sources! ;)

This still makes it more exclusive than a 911 turbo :p :sorry:

Don't worry Andy will buy it and keep it on the road. He's setting up the 420 GSi Turbo benevolent fund. A charity funded by his cavernous pockets to keep unwanted 420 GSi-T's running

Sorry Andy, couldn't help it. No hard feelings :D

Seriously though good luck with the sale Dan, I hope yours doesn't go the same way that mine is!

(although 420gazza wants my shell to reshell his 420 turbo so I guess the car will live on in some form after all :D )

Was that to me? If so, no hard feelings here. It actually made me chuckle :D

I know how people rant on about "OMG, how can you break a 220 or 420 turbo. You're going to hell" etc etc, but to be completely honest, if they were that bothered, they'd stump up the cash and buy it (I'm sure someone has said that before).

And don't get me wrong... if I had the space (and the money ) to buy yours, I would have had it in a shot. Another thing, I can't be arsed working on mine some of the time, so if I had two to look after... well, they'd probably end up rotting away.

Sorry for the OT Dan. I'm sure it can all be cleared up if you wish :)
