civic 1.8vti vtec 5door hatch?
theres a guy u wants to race me in 1 of these (even though i said im not racing on the road)
he says his is 180bhp and has had 'hardly anything' done to it.
am i right in saying that these are 167bhp in standard form?
anyway, i even told him that with a few more mods mine will be pushing out arround 300bhp but he really isn't having any of it.
as we know, from jonny's video's, the vtec's are quick... but what do you reckon?

Now in pipe and slipper land.
The 1.8 VTi is 167bhp
Peak torque something like 122lb ft I think.
0-60 in around 8 seconds
Top end 139ish
Apparently they weigh 1300kg
Insurance group 15
Not a match for a rover turbo in standard form I wouldn't have thought, but not slow either.
It's the 1.6 vti (3dr) which is 160bhp (B16), with less torque. They are lighter though.
They have the B18C4 engine in them, not the same as the integra type R engine (B18C5), not as revvy apparently, although they do go to over 8000rpm. The tegs are 195bhp I think. The VTi also doesn't have as short gear ratios as a teg.
Personally I like em though, and as soon as I've secured a job I'll be parting with money for one. I dont want to commit to paying £1400 + a year for insurance without having a job though.
Alex.

cheers for that mate.
so how much does my ti weigh?
he's such a nonse, he said that my engine is too weak for 300bhp and the rover never made a 2.1 (this is after i told him what had been done to mine, but he just doesn't understand) as far as he is concerned, its a rover, so its shite!

Thats spot on.
You'll kill him in a race, if i were you i wouldn't waste your petrol on it.
But if you must dont forget to use A "private" test track.

already shown him the ANR site but i dont think he understands it.
it's pi55ing me off because he thinks that because i wont race him on the road, he thinks im scared that i'll loose.
and he wants to do it on a tiny little windy lane which is about 8 miles long where michael schumacher would have trouble overtaking a milk float. its just not possible... whoever got in front 1st would stay there for the whole race!

and if you do it for log books ill have the car of you as i need a skip

Dans CRX now has a B18C4 in it - Wanna play with that one
Seriously - a 1.8VTi-S will give most cars a decent run for its money.

Pass.
I got that weight from
http://www.cuddles.abelgratis.net/kerbweights.htm
and it doesn't list the ti. I'm guessing somewhere around 1300 - 1350?
I think the civic comes with lead bumpers to make it that heavy. That website could be wrong however.
I forgot to mention the standard 1/4 mile time is 16.4 seconds.
However there are some quicker vtis about, I've heard of one guy who has exhaust & breathing mods and a teg gearbox who got 15.2s 1/4 I think...
And take a look at
http://forum.hondarevolutions.com/setups/?setupID=126
That's one seriously modded, and nice car. Somewhere around 300bhp it's supposed to be.
However as people have mentioned, on twisties it may have more of a chance, apparently they handle well, and they come with 282mm front discs as standard so the brakes aren't bad...
Alex.
totally agree with you mark there are some very quick ones around here and theres a turbo as well not been up against it but its around here somewhere its just that this young lad needs to know about rovers thats all mate if i said i could beat everybody id be down to his level as, i maybe getting older but im also wiser

Now in pipe and slipper land.
If your in Essex
Look out for a Silver CRX with a Carbon bonnet - It WILL kick a55 - seriously
I'm hoping for over 300hp from it !

lol, suspension is something that i dont wanna talk about at the moment.
the main thing that bothers me is that he has no idea about these car's. its as if he thinks its unmoddable (is that a word?)
he also added "even if its 800bhp, its still a rover"

My mate picks his CTR up this week so no dowt we will have a race just as a comparisson. He used to own a scooby wrx and said that when he was in mine felt just as quick if not quicker, i have drove it and can say theres not much difference[but then i got an airfield to test that on].
The point is he said theres no way i will beat you in the CTR thats from his mouth to. I have raced a CTR top end when was running 7psi and couldnt belive it when he had to move over to let me past as i was having to back off.
I have also raced a lads integra i know which is running about 187bhp he just beat me i was still running 7psi with a shagged manifold. He wouldnt stand a chance now but aint seen him about to prove it. Sharky if i can do that in an almost standard T16t then you will stuff him.

He's got a point.
The Honda Civic 1.8 Vtis are basically a 400/45/ZS. They were built in a rover factory, and only available in the uk because of this. I'm guessing rover designed the chassis too cos they are still using it and honda aren't.
The engine is obviously honda though, and the suspension I think.

Good point.
If honda did design it, it was certianly nice of them to let rover keep using it, as the ZS has done well..
I was only guessing and basing it half on the thought that I think rover made the 200 chasis, but honda got to use the hatchback for the concerto.
I wonder why it was only honda who got the estate though, and only rover who got the saloon.
Although I think I remember seeing somwhere a civic estate modded to look like a rover, and with a t16 turbo in it. Think it was a motobuild jobbie.

In the mk 2 200/400 it was a joint design by Rover/Honda - both learning off each other, when it came to the bubble 200 mk3 and 400 it was a whole Honda design.

The R3 is actually more Rover than the R8 - as the rear suspension is modified Maestro, the front suspension is the same - which was developed pretty equally..
The HH-R is pure Honda in terms of engineering..
Brian.

if this is sorted ill travel all the way from essex just to see this
